Langebaan Houseboats

Houseboat Holidays In South Africa: For something really different, a houseboat holiday promises relaxation, rest and fun while incorporating a little bit of travel within your accommodation option. The biggest draw card of a houseboat holiday is the magnificent scenery that usually characterises these. Looking out on the river and its banks, travellers cruise past lazily as birds and other animals drink from the water, trees sway gently in the breeze and the warm air brushes past their faces.

Because of the magnificent landscape of South Africa, there is a wide variety of options when it comes to choosing the houseboat vacation for you and your family. Of course, the selection is not quite as wide as land-based guesthouses and hotels, but the experience offers so much more in terms of novel sights, sounds and sensations.

Here are some options for South African houseboat getaways:

Langebaan Houseboats
(Western Cape)

Sundays Riviera Houseboats

Sundays Riviera Houseboats

The Langebaan Houseboats are situated in the West Coast National Park, just 100 kilometres from Cape Town. These houseboats offer luxurious accommodation with serene surrounds. Larus sleeps six guests in three cabins, while Nirvana can accommodate up to 24 people and is great for functions and family get-togethers. Both are well equipped with comfy beds, fantastic kitchens and inviting dining areas.

Sundays Riviera Houseboats
(Eastern Cape)

Sundays River is a peaceful retreat that is only 20 to 30 minutes from Port Elizabeth in Nelson Mandela Bay. In addition, one of the entrances to the renowned Addo Elephant National Park is a mere five kilometres from the Maggie May houseboat. This boat accommodates up to six guests and boasts sun beds and a braai facility. This houseboat is frequently used for corporate functions and honeymooning couples.

Lake Jozini is the habitat of choice for a huge variety of birds and other animals (including African Elephants and hippos); making any tour of these waters a worthwhile experience. As you drift past the magnificence of the Lebombo Mountain Range, the stresses of city life will melt into your very distant memory. The Shayamanzi Houseboats offer luxury accommodation, complete with oak wood panelling, a Jacuzzi and mosquito netting. These houseboats can accommodate up to 36 people when hired together.

DaRiva Houseboats at Broadwater
(Northern Cape)

Dariva Houseboats

Dariva Houseboats

This private river retreat is situated on the Vaal River, just outside Kimberley. The DaRiva Houseboat is comfortable and well equipped with on-deck braai facilities and a skipper. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of these surrounds as Fish Eagles and Kingfishers descend from dizzy heights to the river in search of prey. Broadwater has beautiful wedding facilities, so DaRiva would make for an ideal honeymoon spot. Nearby, the Witsand Nature Reserve, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the Augrabies Waterfalls can be found.
