Grease Musical in South Africa in March and April

Grease Musical

Grease Musical

"Sumer loving had me a blast
Summer loving happened so fast
Met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
Summer days drifting away, to uh-oh those summer nights
Uh well-a-well-a-well-a huh
Tell me more, tell me more ..."

Now if those words didn’t ignite some spark in you, where have you been hiding? These iconic lyrics are from the musical movie made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, which grossed over 200 million USD. And at some point in your life you would have heard this duet playing at a wedding, in a bar or on the radio, who can tell me they haven’t grabbed the closest hairbrush or bottle and joined their friends in the duet from Grease! I sure have and each time I hear the music (even better if the Grease remix is played…) I get a little bubble of excitement in my tummy and am immediately whisked away to a different era, where poodle skirts and Tommy tackies were the norm.

While I know every line in the movie, every note and every word to all of the songs I have always hoped that the only live production I see in my lifetime wouldn’t be the one that was re-enacted by my friends and I in my parents lounge back in high school, (most of you are cringing right now thinking how can she admit that – I’m not ashamed I have the same passion for musicals as I do for ABBA). Well it seems that my prayers have been answered, Grease is coming to Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Grease

This is an all South African cast and kicks off in Cape Town at the Artscape Theatre on 6 March and runs until 11 April, from there it heads into Johannesburg from 16 April to 13 June at the Teatro Monte Casino. Tickets range from R100 to R350 a person and can be booked via Computicket.

We will be in for a treat as the cast is some of South Africa’s most talented, Jonathan Roxmouth (you may have seen him as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast in 2009) plays the oh so cool Danny, who is supported sidekicks Kenickie (Dane Paarman) and the rest of the T-Birds. Sandy is played by Bethany Dickson (from High School Musical) and is guided through her heartache by the Pink Ladies with the loveable Frenchy (Sharon Spiegal) and the hardcore Rizzo (Genna Galloway)

With so many great songs and the fantastic storyline I have being “hopelessly devoted to” this musical since I first saw it, it is “the one that I want” because “we go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong”. Grab your hairbrush and go like “grease lighting” to get your tickets, make sure you don’t miss out on this fantastic show!

Grease is so simple and original show that is worth seeing! It really reminds of 70's student everyday life. It's good to compare with nowadays student life because nothing really has changed. I suggest it to everyone who wants to see it live!
