La Grand Cirque Fantazie at Artscape

La Grand Cirque

La Grand Cirque

I am so excited; last week I bought two tickets for La Grand Cirque Fantazie at Artscape in Cape Town on Thursday evening.  Granted they are the cheapest tickets available (R100) and will probably be up in the heavens but a good friends mother always used to tell us that the price of the ticket is irrelevant just as long as one makes effort to get to the theatre.  So the effort has been made and off to the theatre we will go!

I saw La Grand Cirque on Top Billing last week and was mesmerized.  Direct from Las Vegas, the show, seen by millions of people around the world is set to be one of the most magical shows ever.

With acts routed in the acrobatic traditions of Russia, China and Eastern Europe, La Grand Cirque is a thrilling, fast paced spectacle of breathtaking acrobatics and stunts.  The performers of the show are hand-picked from around the world because they are the best at what they do and have jaw-dropping abilities and precision skills.

I am so looking forward to seeing not only the talented performers and the show itself but also the beautiful costumes that are normally part and parcel of such productions.  As the costume designer for La Grand Cirque – Fantazie said on Top Billing, the costumes not only have to be beautiful and eye catching but also need to be able to work for the artist.

The costumes for the group of performers that slide down the ropes need to, obviously, slide and the outfit worn by the contortionist needs to have sponge down the back of it to protect her spine.  So much to take into account if you are the costume designer!

If you reside in the Mother City, La Grand Cirque is on at the Artscape until July 10th before it moves to The Mandela at Joburg Theatre in Johannesburg from July 15th to August 4th.  Tickets range from R100 to R325 but family packages, group bookings, senior citizen and student discounts are are available.  Book at Computicket.

The show has enjoyed sold out shows in the USA and Europe and is the highest grossing show ever to appear at Australia’s Sydney Opera House.

About

After living in London and travelling the world for many years and more recently living in the Mother City, I now reside on a tranquil sugar cane farm in Kearsney; an area steeped in the history of South Africa’s sugar industry. During the summer months I get involved with the community by assisting the local primary school with swimming lessons at our country club. Some of my favourite things are reading or picking freshly grown vegetables and Iceland poppies in our garden. Milly, my boxer loves her walks to the river that runs through our farm and sometimes, Sandy the cat I hand reared, joins us for a stroll!
