The count­down to Christmas has begun and with just over a month to go you are prob­ably won­der­ing what you are going to be filling the fam­ily Christmas stock­ings with or you might want to spend some qual­ity time with your friends brows­ing around the vari­ous Christmas fairs and mar­kets this fest­ive season.

The Gonubie Christmas Fair in East London takes place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December and is always a pop­u­lar event. The venue is the sports fields in Gonubie and you will once again be able to find fant­astic gifts and stock­ing fillers to delight those close to you on Christmas morning ...

Expect to find more than Christmas gifts — out­door fur­niture, accessor­ies and fash­ion items as well as deli­cious food and yummy treats will be avail­able. This mar­ket is sure to get you into a jolly mood and if you’ve had your fill of brows­ing through the stalls you can put your feet up and relax in the beer tent. All events will be organ­ised by local char­ity organ­isa­tions to raise much need funds!

The South Coast Christmas Market in Uvongo, KwaZulu Natal will be the first Christmas mar­ket on the Hibiscus Coast and runs from Sunday 13 December to Wednesday 23 December 2009. This being a pop­u­lar hol­i­day des­tin­a­tion with more than 500,000 hol­i­day makers expec­ted it is an excel­lent place for a Christmas mar­ket. With over 160 stalls you can be assured there will be some­thing for every­one. Christmas is often asso­ci­ated with dec­ad­ent food and lots of eat­ing and Gauteng has a great oppor­tun­ity for us to taste and pur­chase some deli­cious food and pur­chase some Christmas good­ies at the Hazel Food Christmas Market. The mar­ket will run from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 December 2009 at 32 Pinaster Street, Hazelwood, Pretoria. The Pure Boland Christmas Market & Night Run in Worcester on Tuesday 15 December com­bines a place to pur­chase Christmas gifts and get a bit of exer­cise. Set in the beau­ti­ful Brandwacht val­ley with sooth­ing melod­ies of Christmas favour­ites enjoy this mar­ket that offers food, wine and gifts as well as a host of other activ­it­ies. For those who are feel­ing a bit more ener­getic, why not take part in the 10km night run with a trail through the vine­yards? The race starts at 19h00 and entry is R25 a person.

Don’t let Christmas creep up on you this year, avoid the mad rush at the shop­ping cen­ters the few days before Christmas get yourselves to these markets!
