Helen Rushton

About

After living in London and travelling the world for many years and more recently living in the Mother City, I now reside on a tranquil sugar cane farm in Kearsney; an area steeped in the history of South Africa’s sugar industry. During the summer months I get involved with the community by assisting the local primary school with swimming lessons at our country club. Some of my favourite things are reading or picking freshly grown vegetables and Iceland poppies in our garden. Milly, my boxer loves her walks to the river that runs through our farm and sometimes, Sandy the cat I hand reared, joins us for a stroll!

She volunteers at the Two Oceans Aquarium in her spare time and would spend all her time by the sea or surrounded by nature if possible. After spending 7 years in the United Kingdom, she has returned back home to Cape Town to be nearer to her family and to her ‘favourite place in the world’. Find her hanging out with friends round the braai or curled up on the couch reading the latest crime drama. With a spring in her step and a song in her heart you’ll find her supporting local artists in theatre, music and dance – from a hip hop competition or the latest musical on stage at Artscape in Cape Town. Enjoying all things culture she likes to share her experiences and delights with those around her.

Thaya is a travelling photojournalist, local music lover, mother and country-dwelling Impresario, living in a tiny village in the magnificent Overberg region. A love of capturing the soulful essence of a place has led Thaya to seek out lesser-known places, from folk music haunts, circus-themed restaurants, hidden beaches and crystal pools, to hot springs and all those overlooked places that hold their own brand of magic. When not out frolicking in rivers and embarking on adventures with her 11-year-old son, Thaya hosts music evenings in her town, cooks from her vegetable garden and has her nose in classic literature.
