I ♥ Somerset East

Hi, I’m Alan from Angler & Antelope Guesthouse in Somerset East.

Somerset East IS BEST KNOWN FOR its rural ambience and country hospitality.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT The Walter Battiss Art Museum; you can say you have taken a trip to Fook Island.

THE BEST family PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the yellowwood trees on the museum premises.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the waters edge with a big trout!

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO spend the day enjoying fly fishing, mountain biking, birding and hiking.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO be transported to another world by visiting the Walter Battiss Art Museum and taking a trip to his Fook Island.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS spring and autumn, BECAUSE the weather is moderate and comfortable.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Hobson’s Choice Deli.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Nigel’s Pub at the Angler & Antelope, TRY THE lamb shank.

MY FAVOURITE chilling SPOT IS Hobson’s Choice Deli – great food with a great view of the mountain.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY the Malt whiskies at Nigel’s Pub.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO any or all of the three pubs on the main street of town.

Somerset East’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the four biomes within 20kms of the town.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to explore the Boschberg indigenous forest.

FOR SOME CULTURE , I LIKE TO WATCH the traditional dancing by Sangezo Ratyana’s Gumboot Dance and Traditional Dance Group.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO laze on a blanket on the banks of the Little Fish River.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY wild fly fishing in the Karoo.

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS the mountain drive overlooking the town of Somerset East.

MY FAVOURITE clothing SHOP IS The Coffee Shop – great food and clothing!

MY FAVOURITE relaxing SPOT IS lying in the hammock at Hobson’s Choice Deli.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN July, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Biltong Festival.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the Old British Officers Mess, FOR ITS collection of Walter Battiss paintings.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS getting in touch with nature, it costs nothing.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO browse in the Angler & Antelope fly shop.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the Slagtersnek Exhibition.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS a weekend of wild fly fishing in the Karoo.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I assist the Aeroville soup kitchen.

I Love Somerset East BECAUSE everyone greets you and the people and surroundings remind you that life is about enjoying your friends, family and mother nature.
