I ♥ Summerstrand

I ♥ Summerstrand

Hi, I’m Christine Landman from Carslogie House in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.

Summerstrand IS BEST KNOWN FOR its beautiful beaches.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Pier because it has the most beautiful view.

THE BEST beach PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT Hobie Beach or further along towards the flat rocks.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT The Boardwalk and Entertainment Centre.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO take a long walk along the promenade which stretches all along the beachfront or to play a game of golf at the Humewood Golf Course.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO visit The Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Centre.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS summer, BECAUSE the beachfront is a hive of activity.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Ginger Restaurant by the Beach Hotel.  The venue offers ideal views of the beach and Shark Rock Pier. The atmosphere is friendly and chic while the food served is fresh and distinctive.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS De Kelder, TRY THE wonderful steaks and the seafood is to die for. The restaurant is also situated on the beach front and is the perfect place for a cosy evening or a celebration.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM The Bell Bar at The Beach Hotel.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Zest or Balizza in Walmer.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO any of the beachfront restaurants or clubs.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS sip cocktails overlooking the sea on the verandah of the Beach Hotel.

FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO The Boardwalk Amphitheathre where artists perform on a regular basis.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO be pampered at one of the surrounding spas.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY adventure quad biking or a helicopter ride over Port Elizabeth.

MY FAVOURITE WALK / HIKE IS the Roseate Tern hiking trail. The 9km 9km long trail starts at the entrance gate to the Cape Recife Nature Reserve and makes its way along the beach as well as through rooikrans stands, Fynbos and scrub vegetation.

MY FAVOURITE curio SHOP IS at The Boardwalk or on Saturdays and Sundays at the market on the beachfront.

MY FAVOURITE penguin WATCHING SPOT IS The Penguin Sanctuary at Noordhoek. Whales and dolphin watching from The Pier is very exciting.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN April or May, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Splash Festival.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS the Red Location Museum. CHECK OUT THE local church on a Sunday. The museum is an apartheid museum and was designed by a South African architectural partnership which has won a number of prestigious architecture awards.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, FOR ITS unusual architecture.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS Kragga Kamma Game Park, paintball games, putt-putt, movies or tenpin bowling. For younger children there is Homeleigh Farm; an animal touch farm with lots to see and do.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a picnic at the beach.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO visit Pumba or Shamwari Game Farms.

I Love Summerstrand BECAUSE it is part of Port Elizabeth, the friendliest city in the world.
