I ♥ Ficksburg

I ♥ Ficksburg

Hi, We’re Dennis and Tereza from Malutizicht Lodge in Ficksburg in the Free State.

FICKSBURG IS BEST KNOWN FOR cherries!

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT General Fick’s Monument which is in front of the town hall. The hall itself is a national monument.

THE BEST scenic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN on top of Emperani Mountains.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS can be taken anywhere along the R26 to Fouriesburg and Bethlehem.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD Dennis LIKES TO play bowls.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO play scrabble or paint and Dennis likes to play bridge.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS summer, BECAUSE it is the coolest place in South Africa.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Wimpy.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Kentucky Fried Chicken.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Cliff House, TRY THE cheese platter.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Op die Hoekie.

MY FAVOURITE picnic SPOT IS up a 4 x 4 road on Malutizicht.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY The Y-Not.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the golf club.

Ficksburg’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS that it is on the Caledon River and has easy access to Lesotho.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to visit the Lesotho Mountains.

FOR SOME CULTURE I LIKE TO GO TO the Pellisier Art Museum.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO go trout fishing, especially at Malutizicht.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY
a cherry or asparagus tour (this would be in season only).

MY FAVOURITE WALK IS the Baboonskop Walk on Malutizicht.

Dennis’ FAVOURITE grocery SHOP IS the SPAR. My favourite visitor’s shop is Die Blikplek.

MY FAVOURITE game WATCHING SPOT IS Tempelhof.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN November, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Cherry Festival.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS Pinedene Small Arms Museum. CHECK OUT THE Bazooka.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the NG Church, FOR ITS timeless sandstone splendour.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS a day trip to Afriski in Lesotho (winter time only).

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS Meulspruit Dam.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO take a trip and have dinner on the ‘White Mischief’ which was launched in October 2003 as Africa’s first floating cigar bar and restaurant.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS horse drawn transport.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS Katze Dam.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support various fund raisers.

I Love Ficksburg BECAUSE of its cool climate.
