I ♥ Gariep Dam

Hi, I’m Robin van den Berg from Rose Cottage in Gariep Dam.

Gariep Dam IS BEST KNOWN FOR superior accommodation at affordable rates and stunning view of the dam and wildlife.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Gariep Dam wall.

THE BEST Gariep Dam PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the entrance road leading up to the upper town.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Rose Cottage restaurant.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO get on my Jetski and head into open waters on South Africa’s largest inland dam.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO go to our local pub and grub “Chilatyd” and sip on a glass of sherry while huddled around their indoor fireplace.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS March, BECAUSE the weather is excellent and its out of season.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Chilatyd Pub and Grub.

MY FAVOURITE fishing SPOT IS at Oviston on the Eastern side of the Gariep Dam.

Gariep Dam’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its stunning beauty.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS have a braai at night and look up at the billions of bright, shiny stars.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO sit on my “stoep”at Rose Cottage Guest House in Oviston and absorb the 180 degree view.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY quad biking at Oviston.

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS a complete day trip around Gariep Dam.

MY FAVOURITE family SHOP IS Bill Shop at Oviston.

MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS Rose Cottage Gariep Dam every afternoon at 5pm when the famous South African artist John Burton feeds wild birds.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN Oviston, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Tunnel Festival.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS doing a day visit at the Forever Forest and swimming in their Olympic size pool.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS walking the streets at the Oviston Village and seeing all the stunning gardens.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO eat out at the de Stijl Hotel in the Gariep Dam village.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the Boer War Cemeteries; one at Bethulie and the other at Gariep Dam.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS a weekend breakaway at Rose Cottage Oviston at 4 Myth Road, Oviston.

I Love Gariep Dam BECAUSE it revives your soul and reminds you of how beautiful our country really is.

Rose Cottage

Rose Cottage is situated in the Gariep Dam, approximately half way between Cape Town and Johannesburg. This is an ideal place to break your journey and enjoy the most beautiful surroundings as well as the crisp clean air of the Great Karoo. Rose Cottage is ideal for the weary guest looking to break their journey – or those wanting to break away from the city rush and spend some time enjoying the activities that the area has to offer. Rose Cottage is divided into three establishments, Hammerkop, Rooibekkie and Swallow. At Rose Cottage you will find a small plunge pool and a stunning braai area – perfect for those summer evenings. All units in the complex have got a small lapa outside for your comfort. Ask for your breakfast to be served here or watch the birds feed while sipping on a sundowner.
