Zachary’s Restaurant at Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa, Knysna has received two top awards from the 2010 Diners Club Winelist Awards –  a Diamond Award and a joint award for the best winelist countrywide which is shared with Bosman’s Restaurant at the Grande Roche in Paarl. The awards were handed out at a prestigious event in Cape Town on Monday night, 13 September.

This is the third year running that Zachary’s has won a Diamond Award for its winelist, but the first time it has received the top accolade for “Best Restaurant Winelist”. This year the restaurant also won an Award of Excellence in recognition of an outstanding winelist from the American publication “Wine Spectator” for the fourth year in a row.

Zachary’s extraordinary winelist consists of over 550 different wines which are stored in the wine cellar adjacent to the restaurant’s Private Dining Room. All of these wines were carefully selected by F&B Manager and Wine Director Werner Wentzel, Chef Sommelier Ricardo Roux and Executive Chef Geoffrey Murray and include both imported and local wines.

Wentzel said that he and his team were “over the moon” with the awards. “We have spent years selecting the best wines available locally and some top international wines. However, our list is very focussed on local wines and many of the South African wines on the list have been selected from the cellars of the finest garagiste wine producers.”

About Zachary’s
One of the Top 10 Deluxe Eateries in South Africa (2008 Dine Awards), Zachary’s at Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa is a contemporary classic restaurant that embodies all of Executive Chef Geoffrey Murray’s philosophy on food. Named after the Chairman’s much-loved and well-travelled Labrador, Zachary’s is stylish and contemporary and reflects the five star luxury of the award-winning hotel in Knysna. It is upmarket without being intimidating, sophisticated without being pretentious.

Seasonal menus incorporate vegetables, fruit and herbs from the hotel’s organic gardens and the bounty of fresh produce available in the Garden Route area, reflecting a clean, honest approach to food with a unique style of its own.

Zachary’s impressive wine cellar stocks a superb collection of local and international wines, including South African boutique blends. The restaurant’s award-winning wine list has thrice received an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator.

Zachary’s has four dining options:  the Restaurant, the Private Dining Room, the Lounge and the Terrace. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also welcomes diners who are not staying at the hotel.
