There is unmistakable beauty in the art of ballet. Combining this with the perfection of nature is what the Joburg ballet Company and The National Zoological Gardens are doing. For the first time in Africa, you can see ballet at the National Zoo in Pretoria, and lets face it, who could ask for a better setting.
The Joburg Ballet Company will be performing a collection of pieces on the 9 November at 16h00. The performance will comprise of a collection of pieces, including excerpts of the festive favourite, the Nutcracker, as well as contemporary pieces to the music of Queen … so there is certainly something for everyone.
Exposing members of the public who in the past might never have been able to see ballet will provide a cultural and educationaly enriching experience. The Joburg Ballet is a passionate supporter of conservation and has entertained in support of much needed Rhino conservation in the past.
Guests to the Zoo will see fabulous highlights of the 2013 season as well as a sneak preview of “The Nutcracker” which will be showing in Pretoria on 22 November 2013.
The Zoo’s main goal is to get the message of conservation out there and aligning themselves with strong partners in the leisure industry, that message is bound to reach many passionate people. NZG Marketing manager, Craig Allenby, says the performance joins together South Africa’s rich wildlife heritage and its vibrant arts culture. The performance is included in the cost of the entrance to the Zoo, which is R66 for Adults and R44 for children.
The show starts at 16h00 on 9 November but visitors are advised to be at the picnic area of the Zoo by 15h30 to secure a spot. Please bring picnic blankets and baskets, although food will be on sale by the friends of the Zoo and the Flamingo Restaurant throughout the day.
