Fun for the kids

Fun for the kids

Here’s a great chance for kids to learn all about cooking… the Johannesburg Good Food & Wine Show 23-26 September will have a fantastic programme for children this year. Bring them to the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg and let them loose in the CBeebies Kids Fantasy Food World where they’ll be able to meet and play games with popular CBeebies presenter Sid, and cook with Katy from “I Can Cook”, and The Little Cooks Club.

“I Can Cook” was launched in South Africa on DStv in August. The hugely successful kiddies cooking programme serves up a selection of simple recipes and cookery tips for the under sixes and helps children discover the magic of the food cycle as they learn to connect what’s on their plate with the world around them. Sid and Katy will do three exciting presentations in the Chefs in Action Theatre for the whole family on Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September at 11am when Katy will call up children from the audience to cook with her. She will also be cooking with children in the Kids Fantasy Food World Theatre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Don’t miss out – go to www.gourmetsa.com or www.computicket.com and book now!

Sid has produced a special show for the kids at this year’s Good Food & Wine Show, which includes “Good Sandwich, Bad Sandwich”, and plenty of sing-along songs, poems and mime.

Back by popular demand at the Show this year, the Little Cooks Club as seen on KTV, will promote healthy eating in a fun, safe environment where kids of all ages can experiment with simple, delicious recipes and learn about nutrition. From easy couscous to fruity pasta salads, lunch box treats and no-bake healthy cookies, every child will get hands-on experience and recipes to take home.

Classes are just R30 a child. While the kids are entertained at the Good Food & Wine Show, mum and dad can enjoy the rest of the Show’s programme.

This year there is a fabulous line-up of BBC celebrity chefs including:

  • James Martin star of the BBC Lifestyle series “Saturday Kitchen”, “Sweet Baby James” and the “Great British Village Show”
  • Eric Lanlard, master pâtissier and star of “Glamour Puds”, who will launch his new book Home Bake at the Show
  • Willie Harcourt-Cooze, the king of chocolate and star of “Willie’s Wonky Chocolate Factory”, who will be launching his new book Willie’s Chocolate Bible.
  • Giorgio Locatelli, Michelin Star Italian supremo, who features in Tony and Giorgio.

They will join South African chefs and celebrities such as Jane Griffiths, dynamic local television producer, writer, artist and traveller, who will launch her second book, Jane’s Delicious Kitchen, at the Show; and Luke Dale-Roberts, previously Executive Chef at La Colombe and now consultant chef, Shane Sauvage of La Pentola and Nikky Gibbs of The Westcliff.

The exciting demos by these and other chefs and celebrities will take place in the Chefs in Action Theatre, sponsored by Samsung, Afrox Handigas, Top Billing, SABC 3, Alchemy of Gold, Caesarstone, and The Palazzo Montecasino, the preferred hotel for the international celebrity chefs.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to cook alongside celebrity chefs James Martin, Eric Lanlard, Willie Harcourt-Cooze, Giorgio Locatelli and Jane Griffiths at our hands-on workshops.
