Rivonia IS BEST KNOWN FOR its restaurants and IT industry.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Lilliesleaf Farm in Rivonia, where Nelson Mandela and ANC members used to meet and hide out in the apartheid era.
THE BEST spring PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN when our jacarandas are in bloom.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Mandela Square in Sandton City.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO walk along the Sandspruit where an enterprising resident of Rivonia has created a lovely walk for families, dogs and for those who just want their own company.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO I like to drink cappuccino and read the newspaper at Nino’s.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS summer, BECAUSE our leafy suburb becomes leafier.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Indulge Decadent Dining just outside Woolworths.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Contessa Tea Shop on 11th Avenue. Lovely salads, light lunches.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Rocket, TRY THE panfried chicken breasts in a Dijon mustard sauce, with fried mushrooms, celery and bacon.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM the Woolworths all night stop Engen Garage on Rivonia Road.
MY FAVOURITE reading SPOT IS the little Rivonia Library which dates back to the days when Rivonia was called ‘The Village’.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Spur Steak House, Luca’s Pizzeria or Nando’s. Lekker food and a great vibe.
Rivonia’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS that Nelson Mandela once live here.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to picnic and watch the eagles at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.
FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO go to the Theatre on the Square in Sandton City.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Carlton Centre, FOR ITS view of Johannesburg. Take a look from the 50th floor.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS to Montrose Nursery, with its beautiful plants, coffee shop and play area for kids.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to take your picnic basket and sit on the lawns at Zoo Lake.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO I like to attend wine tasting evenings and ‘fine dine’ at Browns Restaurant on Wessels Road.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the number of trees. Johannesburg is a man-made forest of note.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I get involved with charity projects in Diepsloot.
In Rivonia people still know each other; the drycleaner, the grocer, the butcher, the fish shop, the newspaper man on his bicycle. Rivonia is so central. From Rivonia you have easy access to every highway (N! and N3) and you can catch a Gautrain bus right on your doorstep. Getting to the airport is a piece of cake!
I LOVE Rivonia BECAUSE it’s retained its old village atmosphere. Here and there you’ll still see an old farmhouse amongst townhouses and office blocks.
