The Summer of Love at Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn

Send to Kindle

Summer of LoveSeptember 1st is Secretaries’ Day and the Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn, Pretoria Accommodation, has a treat in store; tickets for their production of The Summer of Love for a bargain price of R135 per person.  The performance is at 1pm so an ideal time to take a half day (it is Secretaries’ Day after all) and enjoy lunch and an afternoon off!

The release of the Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band marked the beginning of the 1967 Summer of Love and it ended with the now famous Woodstock Music Festival in the summer of 1969.  The Barnyard Theatre proudly presents a tribute to the heady days of the ‘60’s with music from the West Coast of the USA; San Francisco and California as well as the well known sounds of The Beatles and hip happening London!

Music from a lot of the 60’s great is featured:  The Beatles, The Mammas and The Pappas, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin and many more.  The surf is up with West Coast sounds like ‘Monday Monday’, ‘California Dreaming’ amd ‘Hair!’

That small event that was Woodstock (where 500 000 people gathered for three days of peace and music) is not forgotten.  Performer SK Motubatsi gives a wonderful rendition of Joe Cocker’s ‘With a little help from my friends’ while Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Star Spangled Banner’ and ‘Purple Haze’ is sung by Jason Guile.  Creedence Clearwater Revival is supported with many of their 1969 hits like ‘Down on the Corner’, ‘Who’ll stop the rain’ and ‘Hey Tonight’.

So if you are after an afternoon of super singing and dancing and a great excuse to wear a flower in your hair (a la the Summer of Love) then get online and book a ticket for this rocking show at Menlyn Barnyard.

The show is on from August 31 to October 17th.
