Guest Farms of KwaZulu Natal

Send to Kindle
Chillifields B&B

Chillifields B&B

Guest farms offer holiday accommodation with a difference. Instead of luxurious spas and silver service, visitors are immersed in the rustically charming life of country farmers. They become a part of the workings of the farm, getting the opportunity to interact with the land and animals in a very hands-on way. This is an awesome way to unwind and spend quality time with the family.

Here are some of the guest farms of the KwaZulu Natal Province:

Chillifields B&B (Hillcrest)

Marked by stunning duvets of colourful flowers, Chillifields really is rather idyllic. Its situation on the side of a hill grants it breath-taking views of the Assagay Valley. There are magnificent bird species around Chillifields, including Egyptian Geese and Long-Crested Eagles. This guest farm is within close, convenient proximity to many of Durban’s attractions, as well as to the Shongweni Polo Grounds.

Jolo Guest Farm

Crocodylus Private Sanctuary (Hluhluwe)

This caravan and camping site is a crocodile and ostrich farm. Their aim is to educate their visitors about these animals and to engender an appreciation for them. Due to their convenient situation, Crocodylus Private Sanctuary is a favoured stopover point for travellers to Kruger National Park and Mozambique. Attractions and activities include a bunny park, kids’ play park and guided tours of the farm.

Jolo Guest Farm (Rosetta)

Nestled within a quiet farming community in the Drakensberg Mountains, Jolo Guest Farm promises visitors the perfect combination of wildlife, fishing opportunities, rest and relaxation. Self-catering accommodation means that Jolo is ideal for those travelling on a budget. There are plenty of activities that are available at Jolo; including walking, hiking, cycling, biking, fishing, golfing, caving (look out for cave art) and bird-watching.

Cosy accommodation and mountain backdrops are the perfect combination for weary guests needing a retreat. This guest farm includes the following must-sees: Amangwe Craft Centre, Ardmore Ceramic Art Studio, two golf courses, and the Spioenkop Game Reserve.

Teddington Adventure Farm (Swartberg)

Flanked by Mount Macdonald and Umzimvubu River, this farm guarantees awe-inspiring views of the South African landscape. The accommodation is self-catering and quaint, providing an authentic country experience. There are a number of activities on the Teddington Adventure Farm; including fly-fishing, hiking, game viewing, mountain biking, bird-watching, quad-biking, river tubing and much more.

Harrow Hill Guest Farm (Howick)

This English-styled country home is more luxurious than rustic, focussing on the peace and tranquillity of country living. This is a working beef farm situated near to Midmar Dam, Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve and Karkloof Falls. This is the perfect destination at which to laze about in the shade of a tree, go boating, skiing or fishing, all at the side of special friends or family members.
