Splashy Fen 2011

Splashy Fen 2011

Collectively known as The Aquarian Quartet, acoustic guitar maestros Steve Newman, Tony Cox, Syd Kitchen and Greg Georgiades are set to reunite after a break of six years for a special performance at next year’s Splashy Fen Music Festival in the Drakensberg over the Easter weekend from April 21 to 25. In the history of South African guitar greats there has never been a grouping quite as musically supercharged as The Aquarian Quartet, with all four members regarded as among the most inventive and skilled guitarists that the country has ever produced …

They are: Steve Newman of Tananas fame; Syd Kitchen, whose lyrical and compositional skill is legendary and who, incidentally, has performed at every Splashy Fen since its inception in 1990; Greg Georgiades, a masterful guitar, oud and bazooki player; and the multiple award-winning Tony Cox, whose acoustic virtuosity on the steel-string guitar has earned him international acclaim. Cox and Newman are currently based in Cape Town, Kitchen in Durban and Georgiades in Pretoria Accommodation.

Recording and performing artists in their own right, each of the foursome has his own distinct style, and it is the blending and coming together of these different styles that makes The Aquarian Quartet so brilliantly unique and captivating.

Splashy Fen 2011

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the mastery of these four long-time friends (and fellow Aquarians, hence the group’s name) doing what they do best at Splashy Fen 2011. Other artists confirmed so far include the likes of Karen Zoid, Good Luck, The Rudimentals, Holiday Murray, Margaret’s Daughter, Valiant Swart and Wrestlerish to name a few.

Held on a farm near Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal, Splashy Fen is South Africa’s longest-running annual music festival that goes beyond a four-day line-up of some of the country’s hottest live acts to include a multitude of fun outdoor activities for the whole family.
