I ♥ Richards Bay

I ♥ Richards Bay

Hi, I’m Riëth Marais from La Rochelle Inn in Richards Bay, Zululand, KwaZulu Natal.

Richards Bay IS BEST KNOWN FOR lovely weather right through the year & holidays.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Look Out point for the beautiful scenery of the harbour and sail yachts.

THE BEST leisure PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT at the beach and Small Craft Harbour in New Ark Road.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the Tuza Gazi Waterfront.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO go to our beautiful  beach for long walks and to view the dolphins playing in the water.

I ♥ Richards Bay

I ♥ Richards Bay

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO settle into a local Sports Bar or restaurant.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year round, BECAUSE of our lovely tropical weather.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Porky’s or Dros (Shop 1, Captain’s Walk, Tuzu Gazi Waterfront ) in the small craft harbour.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Dros/ Porky’s or Maritinos Tavern in small craft harbour.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Maritino’s Tavern, TRY THE Eisbein and veggies.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Porky’s (10 Maxwell Street) or Spur.

MY FAVOURITE picnic SPOT IS Naval Island.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Streakers Sports Bar (Shop 10 Tuzi Gazi Esplanade).

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Streakers Sports Bar or Slipway Cocktail Bar.

Richards Bay’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the warm, friendly people and plenty of watersports such as fishing.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS a braai or go for a drive around Naval Island.

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO Shakaland which is a traditional Zulu “Umuzi” or homestead as well as a hotel.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO go to the Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve.

I ♥ Richards Bay

I ♥ Richards Bay

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY Umfolozi Game Lodge.

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS to Cape Vidal.

MY FAVOURITE place to SHOP IS the Boardwalk shopping centre.

MY FAVOURITE dolphin WATCHING SPOT IS Long Pier.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN September, JOIN IN THE FUN AT Zululand Expo which is the second largest combined entertainment and exhibition event in KwaZulu Natal.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS Shakaland. CHECK OUT THE beer making.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Boardwalk, FOR ITS all of the shops and restaurants.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS Umfolozi Bird Park / Day farm / Umfolozi Game Reserve.

I ♥ Richards Bay

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a picnic on Naval Island.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO go to Gateway Theatre of Shopping or uShaka Marine World.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS all the whales close to the shore during winter months.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS Sudwana Bay Lodge.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support local shops by doing all my shopping local.

I Love Richards Bay BECAUSE it offers lovely weather all year round and lovely and clean close beaches.

Lived in nearby Empangeni for years. My husband worked in Richardsbay and I loved my trips there. My baby daughter (now 29) learned to toddle on the beach. The memories are just soooo good. Been living in the UK for the last 24 years, but try and come back there every few years.
