Gugulethu Tenors

Gugulethu Tenors

Saturday February 19th might see the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup on the sub-continent and closer to home the Super 15 rugby tournament kicks off with the Sharks playing the Cheetahs but don’t be caught short and find yourself without a ticket to the very impressive Gugulethu Tenors.

uShaka Marine World will be alive with the sound of music on Sunday evening as this Afro-operatic pop sensation entertains Durbanites from the Upper Deck.  The tenors will only be at uShaka for Sunday night, and this performance will launch the new album of the group and will show the public of Durban exactly why the Gugulethu Tenors shone during the soccer world cup last year and why they have caught the attention of world superstars Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey.

Described as South Africa’s answer to ‘Il Divo’, ‘Pavarottis Children’ and ‘The Diamonds of the Township’, The Gugulethu Tenors are made up of Mpendulo YHawa, Siyabulela Gqola, Xolani November and Loyiso Dlova.  The group shares a mutual love of opera, African medleys and gospel music and they hope to pass on that love and passion for music to the people they entertain.  Songs during their performance include compositions from O Afrika!, Nyamezela, O Sole Mio, the famous Nessum Dorma and Nella Fantasia.  Contemporary numbers such as The Prayer, Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata and Gé Korsten’s Liefling – so there certainly is something for everyone in this broad repertoire of music.

The Gugulethu Tenors

Tickets & Bookings:
The Gugulethu Tenors performance will start at 6pm on board The Phantom Ship.
Tickets are R85 per person and these can be booked through Computicket.
Although the ticket price does not include a meal one can order from the Upper Deck Restaurant menu.
