Haenertsburg IS BEST KNOWN FOR being the “Land of the Silver Mists” … land of forests, lakes, waterfalls and more.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the John Buchan War Memorial overlooking a beautiful view of Ebenezer Dam.
THE BEST scenic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT Haenertsburg Cemetry, overlooking the village.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Cheerio Gardens, Debengeni Falls and so many more interesting places.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO hike, play tennis or take a drive to the Wolkberg’s beautiful scenery.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO get together with locals for a meal, chatting and catching up with news.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS Spring, BECAUSE of our annual Spring Fair Festival when the area is “alive” with Azealas and Cherry Blossom trees.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Sanford Heights Nursery and Tea Garden.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST The Red Plate in the village, sitting outside under the huge Elm trees.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Picassos, TRY THE whole menu, superb food by Master Chef. Mr. Host Dombrock.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Pot ‘n Plow – best Pizzas in the land!
MY FAVOURITE picnic SPOT IS at the waterfall area on Stanford Lake Farm and at Debengeni Falls.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY The Iron Crown Pub and Restaurant – good vibe and super food.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO either the Iron Crown and/or the Pot ‘n Plow.
Haenertsburg’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its bird life (especially at Stanford Lake Lodge), fishing spots, hiking trails, adventure sports and more.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS being outdoors with friends; hiking, fishing, swimming and being active.
FOR SOME CULTURE OR LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO periodic cultural talks / movie slides and live music groups held in the Haenertsburg Village Hall.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO my sister-in-law, Colleen Ballendon who runs the Growth Centre on Stanford Farm – for relaxing holistic treatments e.g. Reflexology, Reiki and the like.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY Magoebaskloof Adventure sports at Thaba Metsi (close by) – canopy tours, quad biking, kloofing.
MY FAVOURITE HIKE IS is the Louis Chagninon hike and a DRIVE through and around Stanford Farm’s beautiful forest which borders the magnificent Ebenezer Dam.
MY FAVOURITE gift SHOP IS The Elms – stunning clothes, jewellery and more.
MY FAVOURITE scenic WATCHING SPOT IS at Haenertsburg Cemetery, overlooking our village.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN the Magoebaskloof / Haenertsburg area, JOIN IN THE FUN AT various annual Festivals such as the Kiwi-Fruit festival, Spring Festival, Ebenezer Mile Swim, Mountain cycling race and of course … more.
MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS the John Buchan war Memorial, Long Tom Pass.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDINGS ARE Stanford Lake Lodges FOR THEIR “whole log cabin effect; decor, situated on the banks of Stanford Lake. Also to be mentioned is Pennefathers in the village – cottages built as a replica of the early 20th century mining cottages.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS a visit to the Debengeni Falls which is only 15 kms from us.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a “fairy walk” with Colleen Ballendon (Growth Centre) through our beautiful indigenous forest behind the old farm house. Children actually “believe” they see fairy’s, elves.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO eat out at one of our many eateries in the village viz. Picassos, Iron Crown, The Red Plate, Glenshiel Manor, Magoebaskloof Hotel, Pot ‘n Plow, Ruskamp.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS when neighbours, friends, etc get together with their pets for the annual walk up to the scenic Cemetery area when it is full moon!
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS (besides Stanford Lake Lodge), I would treat myself to a weekend away at Bramasole which is about 5 kms from us.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I try and support the local village hall by attending various events planned (to raise funds to keep the hall “going) e.g. meals for the elderly, Quiz shows, Xmas in July and various other charitable events.
I Love Haenertsburg Because it is a great place to be … away from city and town hustle and bustle.
