I ♥ White River

I ♥ White River

Hi, I’m Amanda from umSisi House and umSisi Cottage just outside White River on the way to the Kruger National Park and just minutes away from the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

White River IS BEST KNOWN FOR its proximity to the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN IN the Blyde River Canyon and show your friends what it looks like to be ‘[on top of the world’.

THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the Three Rondavels where the sign says ‘Do not go any further’.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT God’s Window and Wonder View.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO take a picnic to the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens in Nelspruit where there is plenty of shade, some lovely walks and incredible birdlife.

I ♥ White River

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO go out for a long lunch and browse the shops at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS September, BECAUSE its not too hot and the game viewing possibilities in the Kruger National Park are amazing. But we’re lucky in the Lowveld as we enjoy an enviable and fabulous climate all-year around.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS the Magnolia Cafe at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Zannas at the Baghdad Centre (across the road from Casterbridge).

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS The Fez at the Baghdad Centre, TRY THE fresh sushi or gourmet Fez burger.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM the Caltex Garage in White River – its the Lowveld, nowhere else is open late at night!

MY FAVOURITE sun downer SPOT IS The Fez at the Baghdad Centre.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY the Mango Lounge at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Gum Treez Pub & Grill at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

White River’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS The Wellness Centre at Casterbridge where you can be pampered in style.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to go to The Fez for sundowners and sushi.

FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO the Blue Moon venue in Nelspruit.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO drive through the Blyde River Canyon.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY some white water tubing or river rafting with Sabie River Adventures in Hazyview.

MY FAVOURITE WALK / HIKE IS the Belvedere Day Walk which starts at Bourke’s Luck Potholes and descends into the canyon to meander through lush riverine forest, where exotic birds (such as the Knysna Lourie and Narina Trogon) are found and is one of the most satisfying walks in the region. It ends at the old Belvedere Hydro Electric Power Station – the largest hydro electric power station in the southern hemisphere in the 1900’s.

MY FAVOURITE ‘something for everyone’ SHOP IS Willowbrook at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.

MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS Transport Dam just minutes from the Numbi Gate entrance into the Kruger National Park.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN May, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Uplands Festival which incorporates live theatre, a country market, children’s entertainment, a food and drink marquee with live music and a jazz festival.

MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS the Kim Kay Gallery at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre. CHECK OUT THE awesome photographic work and interesting pottery.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, FOR ITS Lowveld architecture and courtyard shopping and dining vibe.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the elephant interaction and walk at Elephant Whispers in Hazyview.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a picnic at the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO rent an open-game viewing vehicle for just myself and my husband, and spend the day with a knowledgeable local guide in the Kruger National Park.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS a wild budgerigar flying around the gardens of Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre with lots of wild birds as friends.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS Tamboti Tented Camp in the Kruger National Park.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support the amazing work done by Masoyi Home Based Care.

Kaapsehoop Horse Trails; Chimp Eden, Reptile Park at Perry’s Bridge, Big Swing at Graskop, Zipline with Skyway Trails; Hoedspruit Research and Breeding Centre; Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; Sudwala Caves; Silk Farm and Weavery; Hot Air Ballooning with ‘Balloons Over Africa’.

I Love White River Because of its proximity to the Kruger National Park, Panorama Route and all the adventure activities in the immediate area.
