Events in September
September brings with it the start of spring and although we haven’t had much rain this winter I am looking forward to the beauty that spring brings with her. Flowers, blossoms and a host of fun activities and events are taking place all around the country.
Don’t just sit on the couch this month, make sure you get up and get going with one or more of the events this September. Don’t forget to make use of Friday 24, it’s a public holiday and quite a special one at that – Heritage Day and National Braai Day, get yourselves ready!
Events in the Northern Cape:
One of the busiest months in the Northern Cape, September kicks off with the Gariep Kunstefees from 2-5 September 2010. Taking place in Kimberley this film festival, art exhibition and local music show is a must attend. For more details you can telephone +27 (0)53 832-50140.

The St. Augustine’s Cultural Festival from 24-26 September 2010 in Okeip, Namakwa celebrates the diversity of culture. Come and take part in this fun festival which celebrates everyone. September closes with the Apollo Film Festival in Victoria West from 25 September to 8 October 2010. Arts are celebrated this September at the Aardklop National Arts Festival from 28 September to 2 October in Potchefstroom. With over 70 productions being held this year including dance and drama this festival helps to develop new works and the arts. Tickets are available from Computicket.

Events in the Eastern Cape:
Something new on the Eastern Cape calendar is the Craftwise Craft Expo taking place in Walmer, Port Elizabeth from 3-5 September 2010. From 3-4 September in Bredasdorp the Overberg Eco-Expo takes place. The aim of this expo is to educate and enlighten both businesses and individuals on the ever increasing number of eco-friendly products and services available.
Paarl is host to the Nederburg Wine Auction from 3-4 September 2010 and this premier event on the Cape’s wine calendar is not to be missed. You will find a number of rare finds as well as award winning wines.

The Crazy Store Table Mountain Challenge is a 35km trail run around Table Mountain and is one of the firm favourites on the sporting calendar. The Talisman Herald Karoo to Coast 100km MTB takes place in Knysna on Sunday 29 September 2010 and has previously been voted as one of the top ten mountain bike races in South Africa (2007). This is a very competitive race and is not for the faint hearted.
If chocolate puts a smile on your face then head to George on 24 and 25 September 2010 for the FAMSA Outeniqua Chocolate Festival. Now in its second year this festival promises to have your mouth watering. It is held at the George Mall from 09h00 to 15h00 and costs R20 for adults and R10 for children.
If the chocolate festival wasn’t enough to fill you then head into Knysna from 24-28 September 2010 to Gastronomica where you will not only find lots of fun but delicious food as well as demonstrations and workshops on food.
The Redberry Farm in Geelhoutboom, George is the host to this years annual Outeniqua Country Hop Strawberry Festival on 25 and 26 September 2010. The ever popular Pinotage on Tap now comes to Lions River in Natal, brought to you by the Cape Vineyard Diemersfontein this is the first time the event will be held in KwaZulu Natal and it’s sure to be very popular and promises the same fabulousness as the Cape Town event. Joburg Day is an annual music festival held on 4 September 2010 at Riversands Farm in Fourways. The 2010 line up includes The Parlotones, Prime Circle, Freshly Ground, Danny K and Arno Carstens will be featured along side new talents such as Jack Parrow, Thembi Seete, Liquideep and La Vuvuzela.
