This week is really busy and will keep you entertained throughout most of the provinces around South Africa; it’s time to have fun this March so get yourself out and about and enjoy yourself. Take your friends and family with you and make the most of these fantastic events!

Harvest festivals are in full swing so wine lovers and their families should head to the Cape Winelands or for those of you who enjoy an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party get dressed up and head to Durbanville to be flamjangled. The annual South African Navy festival is also worth a visit especially the evening concert performed by the SA Navy Band in the dry dock.

For scientific minded visitors join us at the national science festival in Grahamstown and learn something new at the exhibitions, workshops, field trips or just enjoy the amazing laser shows.

For swimming athletes there are two annual swimming events you can participate in, so head to either Limpopo or Eastern Cape for a challenging swim in the dams. Runners can head to the Free State, Northern Cape and North West Province for a selection of marathon races to help with training towards the annual ultra marathons. There are many more activities to enjoy with the whole family this week, so get your family and friends together and plan to visit some of these fantastic events on offer …

Events in the Western Cape:

It is harvest time in the Cape and the Wellington Harvest Festival in Wellington from Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 March 2012 gives you the opportunity to experience just what the harvest is all about; good food, fine wine, and superb entertainment. Your ticket includes a free wine tasting at one of the participating cellars and there are a variety of activities that will be free of charge. Simons Town will be buzzing from Friday 16 March to Sunday 18 March 2012 as the South African Navy open their gates for the annual South African Navy Festival. Enjoy the SA Navy Band Dry Dock Concert in the evening and then spend the rest of the weekend watching the naval displays.

All flamjanglers are invited to the annual Flamjangled Tea Party in Durbanville from Friday 16 March to Sunday 18 March 2012 the party within a party! You can expect to find several themed spaces and places, great music, top food, fine cocktails, oversized art, dress-up, surprising performances, ridiculous games and daft competitions.

Merrifield Mile

Merrifield Mile

Grahamstown is host to SciFest Africa from Wednesday 14 to Tuesday 20 March 2012. This is South Africa’s national science festival and includes more than 600 events such as popular lectures, exhibitions and workshops, field trips, laser shows and more with attendance exceeding 45,000 visitors.

'Om Die Dam' Marathon

‘Om Die Dam’ Marathon

In 1991 there were only 1950 athletes taking part in the ‘Om Die Dam’ Ultra Marathon and now 21 years later this is a thriving and extremely popular race taking place in Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday 17 March 2012. The route is circular, challenging and is set in beautiful scenic surroundings with a steep climb at the 38km mark over Saartjiesnek.
