Weekly Events Round Up (3 – 9 September 2012)
It’s September and nothing can be more exciting than to pack away those winter woollies – it’s time to get outside, explore and spend time with family and friends. We have picked out a selection of exciting annual events and festivals going on in the various provinces around South Africa for you to look forward to over the next week.

Events in the Western Cape:
If you enjoy a good laugh then join us at the Nando’s Cape Town Comedy Festival at the Artscape Theatre on the Foreshore from Monday 3 September to Sunday 9 September 2012. This comedy festival innovates, engages and entertains the Mother City and incorporates a number of unique features that makes this festival ‘international’ in the true sense of the word. With six separate programmes everyone’s tastes should be catered for.
Come and experience the farming life at the annual Swartland Show in Moorreesburg from Wednesday 5 September to Saturday 8 September 2012. This award winning show is the biggest agricultural show in the Western Cape and promises to be an educating and fun filled event for the whole family. Enjoy homemade meals like potjiekos, pancakes and braaivleis while strolling through the crafters’ markets, agricultural machinery and livestock exhibitions. Come and join the Staalwater Mountain Bike Challenge in Caledon on Saturday 8 September 2012. Staalwater (Steel / Iron Water) refers to the hot springs at the start location. All routes start and finish at The Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa. With three route options, the event offers something from beginners to fit riders. Dirtopia always promises a fun day out – make sure you are at the lucky draw and entertainment at the casino afterwards so try and stay for the weekend with Caledon Hotel.
Participate in the Tri-Robben Island race in Cape Town on Sunday 9 September 2012 where athletes can enjoy a swim, cycle, run on the historical island where Madiba spent much of his time in prison. Events in the Eastern Cape:
All media related industries should be interested in attending Highway Africa an annual ICT conference hosted by Rhodes University situated in Grahamstown and is held from Sunday 9 September to Tuesday 11 September 2012. Each year, more than 500 delegates from across the globe attend the conference to discuss issues relating to internet governance, ICT policy and media for democracy. Join us to debate this year’s conference theme of ‘Africa Rising – How the media frames the continent’s politics, trade and growth’.

Events in the Northern Cape:
The Powerade Drie Provinsies Marathon and Half Marathon starts in Jan Kempsdorp which is north of Kimberley will be held on Saturday 8 September 2012. A point to point race, this course is hard and undulating, however the breath taking scenery through the thorn veld will take your mind off your weary legs. As the name of the race hints at, it is run through three provinces; starting in the Northern Cape, entering the North West Province, turning into the Free State and finishing in the North West Province. Events in Gauteng:
The annual Soweto Wine Festival will be held at the University of Johannesburg in Soweto from Thursday 6 September to Saturday 8 September 2012. There is an unspoken pride and awareness that all new trends start with Sowetans. It is fitting that this is the birthplace of Africa’s wine and lifestyle festival that combines the best African vibe with the finest South African wines, bringing the vineyards to Soweto and Soweto to the vineyards. For a cultural experience head to the South African Tattoo at MonteCasino in Fourways from Thursday 6 September to Sunday 9 September 2012. A tattoo is a drumbeat or bugle call that signals the military to return to their quarters and the South African tradition of tattoo dates back to the 17th Century and Cape Dutch rule in the Cape. With a cast of over 800 this production will be entertaining and guaranteed to delight both young and old.
The super-regional shopping centre will come alive from Friday 7 September to Sunday 9 September 2012 when the Sandton City Fashion Circus comes to Sandton.
