Cape Town is a top tourist destination. People fly in on a daily basis to experience its mountain(s), sea, wine, food and general joie de vivre. And many of them come with children.
Finding a hotel or guest house that is genuinely child-friendly is not as easy as it sounds, so here are a couple of pointers in the right direction. A venue is really family-friendly if it has any, or most of, the following:
- Their policy includes children of all ages
- They can provide cots
- They can provide babysitting
- They have a fully fitted kitchen that includes washing machine and/or tumble dryer
- They have any extras, like a swimming pool
There are many hotels that offer accommodation to children of all ages, and you can search for these here at Family Friendly Accommodation. Whilst not everyone advertises cots or babysitting, it’s best to ask – some venues will go out of their way to meet your needs.
Here are a few child-friendly choices in and around the city bowl to make it easier for you.
We like them because they provide optional laundry and babysitting services, a build-your-own burger station on their menu, and their view of Table Mountain from the deck is exceptional. They’re also close to the city centre and the V&A Waterfront, which means you can simply walk to most of the sights. There is also a splash pool on the sunroof terrace.
We like them because they’re apartments and thus provide extra space for children, they include a washing machine, a laundry and maid service, and a cot if you need one. Better still, the wooden floors, exposed brick and ceiling beams and the fact that each room has been uniquely decorated by an artist, poet, photographer, designer or musician makes it a joy to be in.
We like them because they provide fully equipped kitchens, suites that can take up to six people, a babysitting service, laundromat, two swimming pools with sun decks and they’re pet friendly – so the whole family, including the dog, can feel at home.
We like it because it’s on the edge of a nature reserve, you can walk to the beach, and you can hire the main house which will accommodate six people with ease. The owners will add an additional bed if there isn’t enough room. Over and above the space for a family, there is a supermarket and a restaurant on their road, taxis will pick you up on the corner, and there is a large swimming pool and sun deck.
We like them because they will provide a cot, their heated pool has a safety fence, they have a fully fitted kitchen, a covered patio and lie down a quiet leafy road that is simply a stroll from the beach. Family holiday ease.
We like it because it provides three self-contained apartments that include comfortable bedrooms, fully stocked kitchenettes, washing machine and tumble dryer, veranda, and a beautiful garden with views of Table Mountain. It also lies walking distance from Company Gardens and 10 minutes from Long Street.
We like it because they provide a cot service on request, it is a self-contained apartment with a fully equipped kitchen that has a washing machine and tumble dryer, and views over Lions Head. It lies on the local taxi route, close to the Deer Park, a number of restaurants and coffee shops, and the Gardens Shopping Centre.
