For an incredible local experience, you have just got to make it the heart of Stanford's Village Green for the Great Earth Hour switch-off. 28th March 6pm. Everybody brings a picnic and a blanket to the central village green to await the moment when all the church bells ring the count-down to Earth Hour. When the village lights switch off - the green is just plunged into magnificant star light, galaxies and milky way to the oohs and aahs of all.

After 10pm, Jazz will be the flavour of the 2010 event and the local restuarants and pub will be open late hosting jazz artists and musicians in aid of fund-raising towards the Overberg Conservation Foundation's Eco schools project. Rumour has it that Abdullah Abrahim was so taken by the ethos of the event that he donated a performance, sadly his German agent had other plans...so the town is waiting excitedly on other possible big name performers. There is a good local line-up but you might just hit Jazz gold..and its to a great cause too.

Picnicing on the Green is for free, safe and peacefull. Great for the whole family and it being Valentines today, I should add, probably the most romantic surprise outing there is in the Western Cape!!
