This November sees the grand open­ing of the Cape Quarter Square and it cer­tainly will be a grand affair. From the 7th to 15th November you can expect a myriad of events and if you attend the open­ing you will have a chance to win. The Square can be found at 27 Somerset Road, Green Point.

What can you expect over this period you are won­der­ing? Firstly you can be enthralled with fab­ulous works of art at the Cape Quarter Art which takes place in both the Piazza and the Square on Saturday 7 November form 10h00 to 17h00. Don’t miss this oppor­tun­ity to see vari­ous col­lec­tions of art­works from a num­ber of the gal­ler­ies in the Cape Quarter as well as inde­pend­ent artists and mem­bers from the Cape Town School of Photography. Expect to see ceram­ics, pho­to­graphy, wood carvings as well as con­tem­por­ary South African Art.

At both ven­ues on Saturday even­ing you can see a fash­ion extra­vag­anza with some of the hot­test trends this sea­son on the ramp at the Square and if you’d like to see some of these more closely you can do so after­wards at the Piazza. Some of the Cape’s school art depart­ments will be present­ing Eco Fashion where the brief was to cre­ate designs rep­res­ent­ing the Cape Quarters Stores, but only using recycled mater­ial. The City Varsity will be present­ing their annual Body Spectra, with tal­en­ted stu­dents show­cas­ing their art in the form of body paint­ing. This year’s theme is Cape Trade Routes.

On Sunday 8 November the Symphony of Light takes to the stage with a com­bin­a­tion of laser and ultra­vi­olet light shows as well as fire dan­cers and music from the Hout Bay Strings. This takes place at both ven­ues from 19h00 to 21h00.

If you find your­self brows­ing through the Cape Quarter from Monday 9 to Saturday 14 November and you think you may have seen a fam­ous face walk past you, why not have a second look because all day dur­ing the week vari­ous celebrity look alikes will be wan­der­ing through the Cape Quarter and you may be the lucky recip­i­ent of a free gift if you spot them. Light, live music will be per­formed daily from 19h00 to 22h00.

Jenny Morris a well known South African chef joins forces with the Cape Quarter for the Food and Brandy Festival on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November. There are vari­ous activ­it­ies and demon­stra­tions tak­ing place from 10h00 to 17h00. Such as Cooking with Jenny, The Art of Chocolate Making, The Essence of Fine Brandy and so much more.

The event winds down on Sunday 15 November with a clas­sic Sunday brunch which is a per­fect way to sit back and relax and take in all that you have exper­i­enced the week before.

With so much on offer at this open­ing you need to make sure you don’t miss out. The fest­iv­it­ies start this Saturday so call your friends and make a day or even­ing or both out of it!
