Franschhoek Oesfees at Solms-Delta Wine Estate

Franschhoek Oesfees

Franschhoek Oesfees

It’s oh so very nearly Oesfees time again and I for one have penciled it into the diary already!  The 4th annual 2011 Franschhoek Oesfees will take place on March 26th at the Solms-Delta Wine Estate in Franschhoek.  I went last year and had an absolute ball so I would imagine that this year will be bigger and better than before!

The Franschhoek Oesfees is an event like no other, bringing the farm workers and farm owners of the valley to kuier and celebrate together; giving thanks for the end of the harvest and the hard work that went with it.  The day is one of live, traditional Cape music, and proper Kaapsekos …. think snoek and patats, afval potjie, waterblommetjie bredie, askoek and konfyt. Don’t forget about the wines – brilliantly named by Solms-Delta as Langarm, Vastrap, Cape Jazz Shiraz, Lekkerwijn and Hiervandaan!

The Solms-Delta estate is a most picturesque setting; amongst old oak trees and with beautiful views of the Franschhoek mountains.  It’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon with a great line up of local artists.  Among these are Radio Kalahari Orkes, Stef Bos and Tribal Echo, the ever popular Hannes Coetzee, Valiant Swart and Ollie Viljoen and the new Cape sensation Les Javan.  Proceedings will be kept on track with the MC for the day; Soli Philander.  Music enthusiasts will be kept well entertained with langarm, Cape jazz, klopse, ghoema and boeremusiek.  Entertainment starts at 11am and ends at 9pm so be prepared to hit the dance floor with the locals!
