I ♥ Gansbaai

I ♥ Gansbaai

Hi, I’m Roelof from Aire del Mar Guest House in Gansbaai in the Cape Overberg.

Gansbaai IS BEST KNOWN FOR shark-diving, whale-watching and fishing.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN IN the cage, while viewing the great white shark.

THE BEST under water PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN with a rented under water camera on a shark diving trip.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS FROM the deck of the boat.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO be outside and enjoy the kilometers of unspoilt coastline.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO watch the stormy sea from a sea-view room at Aire del Mar.

I ♥ Gansbaai

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS March, BECAUSE the days are mostly sunny and windless which makes for a perfect time away.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Tuscany’s on 20 Voortrekker Street, they are open from 08h30 to 18h00 Monday to Friday and 08h30 to 15h00 on Saturday.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST the Great White House Restaurant in Kleinbaai, Gansbaai.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Benguala, TRY THE ‘fish of the day’.

MY FAVOURITE fish SPOT IS the Fish Lady in Main Road.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Grootbos Nature Reserve.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Buitesteen Pub and Grill.

Gansbaai’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the two coastal nature reserves on both sides of Gansbaai.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS hiking the long sandy beaches of the coastal reserves.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO relax on a deckchair on the sunny balcony of Aire del Mar.

MY FAVOURITE HIKE IS the Klipgat Cave route along the coast.

MY FAVOURITE home-bake SHOP IS Cherry-on-Top.

MY FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS the cliff path in De Kelders.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN July, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Festival of the Geese / Fees van die Ganse.

MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS the Art Route. CHECK OUT THE different artists in Baardskeerdersbos area.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Danger Point Lighthouse, FOR ITS history of the HMS Birkenhead.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS Uilenkraalsmond beach which is only 5km outside of Gansbaai.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS hiking, swimming and beach walking for free!

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO enjoy a full day of pampering at Grootbos.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE ARE whales and dolphins playing in the waves.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support the Masakhane community projects.

I Love Gansbaai BECAUSE it offers lots of nature-based excitement for the whole family.

Aire del Mar Guest House

Aire del Mar Guest House, ideally situated in the Cape Overberg region (only 2 hours drive from Cape Town) in the quiet and small seaside resort of Kleinbaai (world known for viewing of the Great White Sharks), is the only guest house where you can actually see the shark diving boats leave from Kleinbaai’s small harbour and follow them all the way to Dyer Island. The guest house is less than 200 meters from the sea and only a few minutes walk from the harbour.
