I ♥ Glencairn

I ♥ Glencairn

Hi, I’m Gillian O’Leary from Moonglow Guest House in Glencairn, False Bay.

Glencairn IS BEST KNOWN FOR for the stunning views over False Bay which stretched from Hangklip, close to Pringle Bay, through to Cape Point on the peninsula.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Cape Point at the light house with its stunning views over the sea.

THE BEST whale PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN en route to Cape Point.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Penguin Colony at Boulders – this is home to the ‘Jackass’ African penguin which occurs in only 27 sites.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO go to the Glencairn beach.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO visit Kalk Bay to browse in the little shops.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS anytime, BECAUSE every season has something different to offer.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay, you can anything from tasty health breakfasts to full breakfasts to whet anyones appetite.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Brass Bell with its wonderful views and proximity to the sea, they have a wide menu with seafood playing the starring role.

MY FAVOURITE walking SPOT IS along the coast from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Cape to Cuba in Kalk Bay, try out one of their popular cocktails and enjoy some tappas while you are there.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Kalkies on the Kalk Bay Harbour where every man and his dog goes to have wonderful fish and chips served by some colourful local people.

Glencairn’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS stunning views and great swimming beach and easy access to all Cape Town’s attractions.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to have dinner and watch a play at the Kalk Bay Theatre.

I ♥ Glencairn

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO go to Masque theatre in Muizenberg.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO walk in the mountains.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY the caves in the Kalk Bay mountain or take  a boat trip to Seal Island the home of the Great White shark.

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS to Cape Point – once there why not hop on the funicular for a scenic trip to the top.

MY FAVOURITE antique SHOPS ARE in Kalk Bay.

MY FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS from the deck of the guest house or a 5 min walk to the rocks along the coast.

I ♥ Glencairn

I ♥ Glencairn

IF YOU’RE HERE IN September, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Penguin Festival. There is plenty happening at this festival, from live shows, craft and food stalls.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Admiralty House, FOR ITS rich history.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS a visit to the Scratch Patch or have a Camel Ride at Imhoff Farm.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS watching the penguins from the pathway and see local arts and crafts stalls.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO take the water taxi from Simon’s Town to Kalk Bay.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE ARE the naval boats and submarines  in the bay.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS to the Robertson wine valley to taste the wonderful wines.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I encourage guests to do a township tour with Charlotte in Masiphumelele which means “we will succeed” in Xhosa.

I Love Glencairn BECAUSE it is a quiet getaway but still close to the main attractions of Cape Town.

Moonglow Guesthouse

Moonglow Guesthouse

Moonglow Guest House

Moonglow is conveniently situated to visit the local peninsula attractions but still within easy reach of Cape Town and surrounds. Moonglow Guesthouse is situated on the slopes of the mountain and overlooks False Bay. The panoramic view starts with Glencairn Beach and sweeps around the bay where in the distance you can see the Hangklip mountain then to Simonstown which is the historical naval town of South Africa. At night the site of the moon’s path of light across the bay is something to behold as are the twinkling lights all around the bay.
