I ♥ Struisbaai

I ♥ Struisbaai

Hi, I’m Christine from Mermaid Guest House in Struisbaai in the Cape Agulhas, Western Cape.

STRUISBAAI IS BEST KNOWN FOR its long uninterrupted white sandy beach.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the harbour with the fishermen’s chuckies (little boats the go out to catch some fish).

THE BEST beach PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT in front of Langezandt Estates on the beach.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the harbour with the little boats as background.  You can also watch when the stingrays is in the harbour and take some pictures with the stingrays.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO walk on our lovely beach.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO drink a glass of wine on our deck and enjoy the sea view from the window.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS February, BECAUSE the weather is good and lots of fresh fish that is being caught.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Bella Luna, right at beach front. You can see and smell the ocean while you enjoy your lovely breakfast.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Pelicans Café at the harbour.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS The Michael Collins, TRY THE Catch of the Day on your menu.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM our mini bar in the guest house.

MY FAVOURITE fishing SPOT IS the harbour or the area they call ‘Skulpiesbaai’.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO The Michael Collins Pub & Restaurant.

Struisbaai’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the boardwalk at the main swimming beach which leads you all the way to the harbour.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to enjoy our beautiful beach sunsets.

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO the historical Hotagterklip fishermen houses.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO take a picnic basket with some friends and enjoy it on our lovely beach.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY a pleasure boat trip or horse riding on the beach. You can also rent some bicycles or kayaks.

MY FAVOURITE WALK IS of course the boardwalk.

MY FAVOURITE curio SHOP IS the Southbound in our little Mall in Struisbaai.

MY FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS from the beach as you can see them playing from the beach.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN March, JOIN IN THE FUN AT Yellowtail Derby and a 5 specie fishing competition with a tent and live music.

MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS Erlank Gallery in Malvern Drive. CHECK OUT THE paintings of the local fishermen. Lovely! Also the ones from the Hotagterklip houses.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the Hotagterklip houses, FOR ITS cultural history in our little town.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the Hotagterklip houses because of the harbour. Get some fishing rods and let the kids enjoy themselves on the jetty trying to catch small fish.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to go to the beach and enjoy the almost never ending beach.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO go to Tsaba tsaba airfield just outside Struisbaai and ask someone  to show me how Struisbaai looks from the sky with a little plane.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS people feeding the stingrays in the harbour.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I visit our kids home (Safehouse) and spend some time with the children. The guest house also give donations to the Safehouse for the children.

I Love Struisbaai BECAUSE it is a one of a kind place!

Come rest a while in our beautiful seaside village. Boasting the longest continuous beach in Southern Africa, the 14km of white sand extends from Struisbaai to Arniston, providing safe bathing, boating and angling. The beach here is exquisite, with an almost subtropical feel. The water is crystal clear and its brilliant color is exaggerated by the colorful fishing boats at anchor in the harbour. Mermaid Guest House is close to all amenities in Struisbaai including the main beach, which makes it a convenient base for your visit to Struisbaai, Cape Agulhas and the Southern most tip of Africa.
