You either have it or you don’t, style that is, but lucky enough for those of us to whom style doesn’t come eas­ily, we can be helped. And the MasterCard Style in the City is here to help. Taking place from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 1 November in the ever pop­u­lar V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, this event will show­case the crème de la crème of fash­ion and beauty and is hos­ted by top fash­ion guru’s Trinny and Susannah.

If you don’t yet know who these two straight talk­ing ladies are then let me enlighten you. I have been a fan of theirs ever since I first saw their show while vis­it­ing my sis­ter in the UK. What not to wear is a pro­gramme that takes ordin­ary people, yes that means you, your wife, mother, grand­mother, father, hus­band or friend and get them to under­stand their body. From there they show them how to dress i.e. what suits their body shape and what they should avoid totally! I not only like them for their tips on body shape, but also because they are com­pletely amus­ing char­ac­ters them­selves. They tell you things like it is and are no nonsense!

You may also recog­nise their names because they are quite obsessed with women identi­fy­ing their cor­rect body shape and have since declared that there are 12 body shapes that women can be. And they have given them appro­pri­ate names so that you can envis­age the shape when you hear the name... are you a cello, vase, bell, skittle or a more tra­di­tion­ally known shape such as the hour­glass or pear, per­haps you are a lol­li­pop, brick or cor­net. Whatever your shape is Trinny and Susannah are sure to get you to embrace it.

But we digress from the details of what the Style in the City 4 day inter­act­ive event is ...

The gala din­ner will be held on Thursday 29 October which is a styl­ish affair (would you expect any less) and is an auc­tion din­ner that will raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa. Go Red for Women, which is presen­ted by MasterCard, will show­case eight pop­u­lar South African design­ers who will each cre­ate a red dress that will be paraded on the run­way by eight equally well-know South African female per­son­al­it­ies, busi­ness­wo­men and magazine edit­ors. The design­ers are Abigail Betz, Gavin Rajah, Gabi Rosenwerth, Marianne Fassler, David Tlale, Stefania Morland, Jaques Lagrange and Bongiwe Walaza. What a treat! Each dress will then be auc­tioned off and pro­ceeds will be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa. If you intend to bid on one of these items please note there will be a reserve placed on each dress.

Trinny and Susannah’s Style Academy aim’s to get women to look and feel fab­ulous. They have a hands on style and are ready to give Cape Town some of their secrets. This is the first time they will be in South Africa and so it is an oppor­tun­ity not to be missed.
