What's on at Theatre on the Bay in March

Perfect Wedding

Perfect Wedding

Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay always has a great line-up of productions and March and April are no different.  If you are about to get hitched and have your hens party or stag do circled in red on the calendar then perhaps going to see a Perfect Wedding (on from March 16th to April 9th) will be worth your while!

The production centres around Bill, who on the morning of his wedding wakes up in the bridal suite to find a stranger, albeit a very attractive and naked stranger in the bed next to him!  The problem is though that he can’t, for the life of him, remotely remember how or where he was introduced to the beautiful woman and his post party hangover is not helping either.  Continued

'Dick and I' at Theatre on The Bay

'Dick and I'

'Dick and I'

If you are on the Theatre on the Bay’s mailing list (like I am) then you are in for a treat.  They are currently offering discounted rates (online bookings only) for their production of ‘Dick and I’.

Based very very loosely on Shakespeare’s Tragedy of Richard the Third, Dick and I was first performed by Alan Committie back in 1998 and he now returns to the revised, updated text with additional humorous bits!  Although in the past Dick and I has been a one man show, the hugely talented Jo Galloway (from hits such as Boeing Boeing, CATS and Hairspray) joins Alan in this production as his estranged East European girlfriend Petrie (I'm sure Shakespeare didn’t have that in mind when he penned the Tragedy of Richard the Third Continued

Defending the Caveman at Theatre on the Bay

Defending the Caveman

Defending the Caveman

I’m feeling very smug; I’ve got tickets to a performance of Defending the Caveman at Camps Bay’s intimate Theatre on the Bay.  I first heard about Defending the Caveman when I was living in London (if I remember correctly it was on at the Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith) but I never got around to going, so when a friend told me that it was on at Theatre on the Bay I asked my caveman to get us tickets!

Known as the ‘date show’ Defending the Caveman has enjoyed a phenomenal, record-breaking run in theatres around the world and is back in Cape Town with Alan Committie in the leading role.  The performance is both funny and informative; a comedy about the lifelong, baffling differences and similarities between men and women! South African Hiking Trails

Strolling the pipe track

Pipe Track

Pipe Track Hike

The pipe track, above Clifton and Camps Bay, can be a leisurely stroll or a strenuous jog, depending on your needs or your mood of the morning. It is easy to reach, easy to follow, relatively easy to walk (depending on the pace of your hike) and great for kids.

It is also one of the most sociable hikes I've been on. It is very similar to the Constantia Nek contour path from Constantia to Kirstenbosch – a hike with very few ups and downs, and extremely popular with locals and their dogs. If you walk it on a weekend expect to pass or be passed by another party at least every five minutes, if not more frequently, especially if you're on the pipe track around midday. Continued

Unforgettable 'The Nat King Cole Story' — a review

nforgettable

Unforgettable

Nathaniel Adams Cole was born and had lived his life some 20 years before I was even born, however he has still managed to influence my life quite considerably. Who is this person you might be asking yourself – then let me give you a few clues. I first heard this magically velvet voice in my late grandfather’s lounge when he put on a record for me to listen to. Immediately I was captured by the music, the melody and the sounds of Nat King Cole.

My grandfather  taught me a number of things first and foremost he taught me to live, love and dance passionately and since his recent passing I have been reminded of many things — one of which being my slight obsession with the music of Nat King Cole ... Continued

Cultural Camps Bay

I often complain there's nothing to do in Cape Town in Winter (or after the sun sets in Summer). If this is a popular refrain in your household, an option you may be overlooking is the Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay. This intimate theatre is home to numerous local and international shows from musicals and cabaret to comedies and drama ... Continued

Trendy Camps Bay

Camps Bay

Camps Bay

My friend Brian — tall, skinny and covered with tattoos, is a waiter in one of the trendiest restaurants in Camps Bay. I'm waiting for him to get off work in an hour so we can go down to the beach and to fill the time, he is giving me the low-down on the mating habits of the Greater Spotted Camps Bay Trendoid.

“See the guy over there wearing the giant mirrored sunglasses?” he asks. I look over to where he is gesturing. “You're gonna have to be more specific than that, mate” I reply, “they're all wearing giant mirrored sunglasses.” He surreptitiously points to a guy inexplicably wearing a white suit on one of the hottest days of the year. “He's some kind of big-shot architect. “The model he's with is the new Guess girl,” he says, “and he just asked for one of our most expensive whiskeys, with a Coke mixer.” Money, it seems, can't buy good taste.
