Kids' Cape Town

It’s not always easy travelling with the kids  — they need almost constant entertaining, and woe betide the parent who takes their child on one too many ‘boring’ museum tours. Luckily, Cape Town has some really exciting things to do and places to see for intrepid little ones. Read on for kid-friendly holiday activities in the Cape ...

5 top spots with kids in Cape Town

Bugz kiddies play park

Bugz kiddies play park

Cape Town, with its focus on the great outdoors, is seldom short of places to which you can take your children — beaches, walks, picnic spots abound — but there are times when the more formal, child-designated spot comes in handy, and a few of these are worth taking note of.

The top five, in no particular order (having gone through no competitive process to reach these pages other than to have gained my approval), are the Barnyard in Tokai, Bugz in Kraaifontein, Deer Park (also known as Rocklands Park) in Oranjezicht, Imhoff Farm in Kommetjie, and Scarecrows in Hout Bay. Most of these are outdoor venues, to accommodate the gorgeous summer weather, and places where parents also get to unwind. Continued

Pony Rides

Is it school holidays again?  Battling to keep the kids entertained?  Look no further than this blog for fun filled ideas to make the holidays fly by!  KwaZulu Natal may have sticky, humid summers, but it also has the most wonderful, temperate winters - perfect for spending the day outdoors.

If you live in the Ballito area what about a few hours at the Flag Farm Animal Farm?  The farm is located on the N2 North and is open daily from 9am to 4.30pm.  Children will have the opportunity to learn how to milk a cow, feed the chickens or have a pony ride.  There is a tea garden for light meals or picnic sites should Dad want to meet you after he finishes work.  The farm is also pram and wheelchair friendly. I’m sure lots of Moms are wondering what to do with the Kids during the school holidays? Well, Cape Town and surrounds actually offers more than its fair share of things to do, even during the winter season.

For starters, seeing as most of us are having to watch our budgets, this is the time to take advantage of the special deals offered at some of our famous touristy “hot spots”! Not only are these places less busy right now than during the high season but you can also save quite a bit. Table Mountain has a “2 kids travel free with every paying adult” special (see http://www.tablemountain.net/) and Robben Island’s ticket prices have been reduced to R50.00 per child under 18 for the holidays. The Two Ocean Aquarium at the Waterfront is free to kids under 4 and 4–13 year olds pay R40.00 entrance fee. They are geared for children with special exhibits that will be fun for kids.
