Waterbuck in Kruger National Park — photograph

A male waterbuck, with his distinct white marking stands on one of the many roads of the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga.  He stops to pause for a minute and takes a look over his shoulder to see who is watching him.  With his intense but gentle gaze this buck is ready to meet whatever comes into his path ... Golden Gate National Park photographs

Photographs taken at the Golden Gate National Park in the Free State. The 11 600 hectares of unique environment is true highland habitat, providing home to a variety of mammals including black wildebeest, eland, blesbok, oribi, springbok and Burchell's zebra — and birds, including the rare bearded vulture (lammergeier) and the equally rare bald ibis, which breed on the ledges in the sandstone cliffs. Ribbokkop, the highest point in the park, reveals a breathtaking tapestry of red, yellow and purple hues as its warm shades merge with the cool mountain shadows towards evening ... Continued

Sunrise beach walk in Cintsa (photograph)

Photograph taken of the sunrise on the beach in Cintsa on the Wild Coast, Eastern Cape. Meerkat photo by Jennifer Peers

One of the first entries received for our November Photography Competition is this great shot of a Meerkat (also known as suricate) submitted by Jennifer Peers — thanks so much for sharing this with us Jennifer, its very special! Meerkat adults take it in turns to stand on guard finding a convenient spot where they can watch for predators, such as eagles. If danger is sighted, the "guard" gives a warning bark, and the meerkats flee to the safety of their burrows. While sentries keep watch, other meerkats take care of the young ... Continued

Photographs of Proteas

This is a beautiful white king protea with soft feathery bracts. Proteas are also known as sugarbushes due to their furry apprearance that resembles spun sugar.
