I ♥ Menlo Park Because ...

I ♥ Menlo Park

I ♥ Menlo Park

Hi, I’m Anna Marie Pienaar from Cottage Guest House in Menlo Park, Pretoria.

Menlo Park IS BEST KNOWN FOR being very centrally located to Shopping Centres and the University of Pretoria and the Pretoria Country Golf Club.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Pretoria Country club, because of the beautiful gardens.
THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT during October when the Jakarandas are blooming.

WHEN THE WEATHER'S GOOD, I LIKE TO go swimming, play tennis or play golf.
WHEN THE WEATHER'S BAD, I LIKE TO visit the nice shopping Centres like Menlyn and Brooklyn. Continued

I ♥ Colbyn Because ...

I ♥ Colbyn

I ♥ Colbyn

Hi, I’m Lola Patrick from Moindis Guesthouse in Colbyn.

Colbyn IS BEST KNOWN FOR being the quietest, safest, most well-treed old Eastern suburb of Pretoria, minutes from the main routes.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Union Buildings around the corner from us, a Sir Herbert Baker masterpiece.
THE BEST city PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the Union Buildings overlooking the city basin — especially in spring when the Jacarandas are in full bloom.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT the Voortrekker Monument or the new Freedom Park would be quite memorable.

WHEN THE WEATHER'S GOOD, I LIKE TO hike the Moreletta Spruit and sit on top of the Lynnwood Ridge looking over the suburbs cracking a chilled bottle of sparkles.
WHEN THE WEATHER'S BAD, I LIKE TO stay home at Moindis curling up with a book in front of the crackling fire with a Moroccan tagine or cinnamon pancake.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year long, BECAUSE Pretoria has the most temperate climate in the country.  Winters are fairly mild here. Continued

The Nutcracker at the State Theatre in Pretoria from 19 November to 19 December

The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker

I’m not sure it would be Christmas without The Nutcracker… I feel it is one of those shows that warms your heart and leaves you with a little bit of magic. The first performance of the Nutcracker was in 1892 at the Imperial Maryinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia. This year the SA Ballet Theatre in conjunction with the SA State Theatre brings it to audiences on the opera stage from Friday 19 to Sunday 19 December 2010.

Since the first performance many, many years ago this production has become synonymous with the festive season. If you haven’t seen it you may be asking yourself why. Let me tell you a little bit about the story ... Continued

The Summer of Love at Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn

Summer of LoveSeptember 1st is Secretaries’ Day and the Barnyard Theatre in Menlyn has a treat in store; tickets for their production of The Summer of Love for a bargain price of R135 per person.  The performance is at 1pm so an ideal time to take a half day (it is Secretaries’ Day after all) and enjoy lunch and an afternoon off!

The release of the Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band marked the beginning of the 1967 Summer of Love and it ended with the now famous Woodstock Music Festival in the summer of 1969.  The Barnyard Theatre proudly presents a tribute to the heady days of the ‘60’s with music from the West Coast of the USA; Continued

2010 Host Cities Explored

2010 Host City, Pretoria

2010 Host City, Pretoria

2010 Host City, Pretoria

Known as the Jacaranda City for all the purple blossom-bedecked trees, which line its thoroughfares, 2010 Host City Pretoria is a lovely, quiet city. It has a long, involved and fascinating history. Here you will find significant old buildings and fascinating museums. The Transvaal Museum has natural history displays and is the home of Mrs Ples, the australopithecine fossil found at Sterkfontein in the Cradle of Humankind. Also worth visiting are the Cultural History Museum and Smuts Museum in Irene, outside Pretoria.

Sedate, leafy Pretoria tends to endure a Cinderella complex when compared with the neighbouring city of Johannesburg. When it comes to world class cities, Johannesburg is one of the most ‘happening’ cities on the African continent and the city gleams with the glamour of money ... Continued
