A night out at decoDance in Sea Point

@ decoDance in Sea Point

@ decoDance in Sea Point

I love dress up themes and will generally throw myself into a dress up party with gusto which sometimes is to my own detriment. Case in point the “I can’t believe you wore that to my 21st” theme where I drove from the Southern Suburbs to Muizenberg in a towel, with one wrapped around my head, only to discover (to my horror) that the birthday girl and 90% of her friends were wearing pretty dresses. Lesson learnt always take a change of clothes in the car ...

That party firmly in the memory banks I do not shy away from the opportunity to dress up and do something a bit differently. So when it was suggested we donned some 80’s outfits and hit the new decoDance in Sea Point one Friday night I immediately said yes. Continued

I ♥ Sea Point because...

I ♥ Sea Point

I ♥ Sea Point

Hi, I’m Candy. I’ve lived in Sea Point for the past 20 years and so know it very well.

SEA POINT IS BEST KNOWN FOR
its bustling 24-hour cosmopolitan vibe and just about everything you need is found in this part of the city. Sea Point seems to hum with non-stop activity. Sea Point is also known for the Sea Point Beachfront Promenade. This is a wonderful paved walkway stretching from the Lighthouse in Mouille Point / Green Point to the far end of Sea Point at Bantry Bay.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN
on Signal Hill or jogging along the Sea Point Promenade. Continued

Pizza for lunch at Posticino — a highlight of Sea Point

Posticino in Sea Point

Posticino in Sea Point

There's something decidedly hodge podge about Posticino – the virtually emerald green sign indicating the restaurant, the rather glamorous and trendy outdoor terrace that looks like something out of Italy, the almost overcumbersome arches, and then the quaint, this-is-a-family-style rather dimly lit tavern-style restaurant that all somehow manages to co-exist in a way that has the place constantly buzzing.

Okay, perhaps 'hodge podge' is a little derogatory a term for this successful eatery. Eclectic would probably be more apt, since it's something of an icon in Sea Point and I need to treat it with more respect (I do so naturally when I later sample the pizzas) ... Continued

La Perla in Sea Point — a review

La Perla

La Perla

I’m a huge Springbok fan and there is nothing I enjoy more than a Saturday afternoon in front of the television cheering them on to victory.  However, I’m also closer to 40 than I am to 30, so standing in a heaving pub where you have to queue for a drink has definitely lost its appeal!  Imagine my joy then when friends invited us to La Perla in Sea Point for the game on Saturday afternoon.  I must admit, I didn’t even know La Perla existed but I’m impressed, very impressed!

Our friends were already at La Perla when we arrived and had booked front row seats; a couch and a few ottomans placed around a table.  We were among the first to arrive but within thirty minutes or so the lounge was packed with not a spare seat to be found.  We had barely sat down when a waiter placed espresso cups of butternut soup on the table in front of us.  A little taster from the kitchen; and a delicious taster it was too Continued

A walk on the Sea Point promenade and Dinner at Aris Souvlaki

Sea Point Walk

Sea Point Walk

It was Sunday late afternoon and the weather was absolutely stunning in Cape Town and so my friends and I decided to catch up. Since we had all been all over the place with the recent activities of the World Cup taking over our lives and hearts we were all feeling a bit disjointed. So we decided that the three of us from the “burbs” (Southern Suburbs) would head over to Sea Point for a walk on the promenade before an early supper with the rest of the gang.

We started at the wrong end of the promenade to understand the story told through art, but the sculptures of the young girl were no less magnificent. The promenade was buzzing with families, friends and young children all enjoying the beautiful day. There were family picnics taking place on the grass while young boys played a game of soccer, couples walked hand in hand, athletes donned in running gear with iPod’s pumping tunes in their ears weaved their way through the crowds. While others were just friends enjoying each other’s company and the wonderful setting. Continued

Walking the road – art on the promenade

Art on the Promenade

Art on the Promenade

She appears as if out of nowhere. This slip of a girl in her brightly striped swimming costume. Her swimming cap and goggles subtly on head. Her back to me. For a moment her figure blocks the sun, the rays filtering from behind her head as from behind a cloud, her arms akimbo as if in balance, or flight. Her complete lack of inhibition; indeed her riveted concentration on another object — the dragonfly — draws you to her. Makes you want her to notice you, if only for a moment. Her postures so indefinably poignant and simple; a living picture.

It's quite a concept. This idea of public art. Art designed for the public, to tell a story, to engage those walking by. I love it. And to erect a series of statues that tell an unfolding, beautiful story right at Sea Point promenade, as well as the many tales untold by individuals who pass by and read into this a further message unshared, is nothing short of ingenious. The air is filled with possibility ... Continued

Dinner at The Duchess of Wisbeach in Sea Point

Duchess of Wisbeach

Duchess of Wisbeach

The Duchess of Wisbeach is a relative newcomer to the Sea Point Restaurant Scene and she announces herself with a London Double Decker Bus bright red front door and an antelope head of some kind above the bar (keeping a watchful eye over the entrance!)

We had a fairly large table with stragglers arriving way after the time the table was booked for.  Seeing as the group is quite a rowdy bunch and seemed to spend more time chatting and having a cigarette on the pavement, our waitress suggested putting a few of their sidewalk tables together and so we ended up dining, Parisian café style, on the pavement! Blackheath Lodge in Sea Point

Blackheath Lodge

Blackheath Lodge

Blackheath Lodge is, quite simply, an indulgence. Set snug up against Signal Hill in Sea Point, Cape Town, this Victorian style, spacious home has been converted into a guest house deluxe with first rate service and that something ‘extra’ that comes from its gracious and downright affable host, Antony.

Blackheath Lodge is a gorgeous Victorian renovation. Its wooden floors, high ceilings, spacious interiors and unobtrusive décor, with just a smattering of African chic, gives it an elegance that provides a charming welcome to weary travellers. Every large en-suite room, of which there are ten, has been stylishly decorated with no sign of compromise or economising. One or two windows afford one a view of the Atlantic Ocean, the advantage of the home’s position up on High Level Road. Getting to and from the well-known Atlantic Seaboard beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton is a matter of minutes, and you’re but a stone’s throw away from the city centre and the V&A Waterfront ...
