Now this is a stay with a dif­fer­ence. Whilst many estab­lish­ments might prom­ise a sim­ilar exper­i­ence to Quatermain's Camp, sel­dom is it that a venue, par­tic­u­larly game reserves where five star lux­ury has prac­tic­ally lost its allure it's so com­mon­place, really deliv­ers bey­ond expect­a­tion. But by all accounts, Quatermain's Camp in the Amakhala Game Reserve, just 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth yet in a part of the coun­try that is truly remote, does just that.

Riaan and Julie have wowed their vis­it­ors with a camp­site that man­ages to com­bine the sim­pli­city of a bygone era — 1920s authen­tic exped­i­tion style – with a true 'big 5' bush exper­i­ence in a nat­ural, unpre­ten­tious way that still man­ages to dish up the del­ic­acies and creature com­forts whilst remain­ing envel­oped by, and in awe of, the nat­ural world.
