Keeping Busy in Tsitsikamma

Updated Friday, 26 May 2017

Tsitsikamma is an exquisite part of the Garden Route; a route that extends formally between Storms River in the Eastern Cape to Mossel Bay in the Western Cape. However, many understand the Garden Route to refer to the entire route between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. Tsitsikamma is a green haven of lush forests, rolling mountains and deep gorges that eventually lead to the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean.

โ€œTsitsikammaโ€ is a Khoi word, meaning โ€œplace of abundant waterโ€, and its natural magnificence leaves us in no doubt as to the origins of its name.

These ones delight in its splendour and in the unending variety of attractions and activities en route.

Tubing

Experience the knee-wobbling power of the rapids on one of the thrilling tubing packages. Choose a gentler exploration of the pools if youโ€™re not up to quite as much adrenalin-inducing adventure.

Or, get really daring by opting for a no-holds-barred trip down the raging rapids of Storms River. All of the necessary equipment (helmets, life jackets, and so on) is provided, and visitors are only urged to wear comfy clothes, closed shoes and plenty of sunscreen. Some packages include meals and refreshments as part of their experience.

Bungee Jumping

The Bloukrans Bridge currently holds the Guinness World Record for being the highest single span arch bridge in the world. It is also the worldโ€™s highest commercial bungee jump, at 216 metres.

In addition to bungee jumping, thrill-seekers can also walk on a suspended walkway beneath the bridge, or can go on the Flying Fox; a 200-metre long foefie slide extending from the arch of the bridge to the mountainside. This is a little tamer than the bungee jump, but is guaranteed to get the pulse racing.
