Hi, I’m Elaine from Beachview in Port Elizabeth.
BEACHVIEW IS BEST KNOWN FOR its peace, tranquility and ocean views.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Barnacles Family Restaurant in Seaview – they are famous for their seafood and steaks. You can leave your compliments on their walls.
THE BEST romantic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT sunset when the sun sets over the sea.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Maitlands Beach, Seaview Lion Park (with a cub on your knee?) or just strolling along the coastline at Beachview, Seaview and Maitland Beach.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO sit on my private balcony on the lookout for dolphins passing by.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO snuggle up on the couch with a good glass of wine and listen to the waves crashing.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS anytime, BECAUSE Port Elizabeth does not have the extreme temperatures that are experienced elsewhere in the country.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS right here … eating one of our cold Continental breakfast platters in the privacy of my own suite.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST you try Elephant Walk Restaurant in Colleen Glen.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Season Eco Eatery in Little Chelsea, TRY THE specials menu or their excellent A La Carte. They are only open in the evenings.
MY FAVOURITE chilling SPOT IS at the top of the hill, just along the road where you can watch the ocean for miles and miles.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY a trip into Port Elizabeth and head to The Boardwalk. There is so much to do there … restaurants, cinemas, children’s rides and the casino. There is also a ten pin bowling alley next door to the entrance … no excuse not to enjoy yourself.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Three Legged Pig in Colleen Glen or the Dizzy Dolphin in Seaview – they’re our closest hostelries.
Beachview’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS Beachview. This little pocket of the country is not well known nationally (or internationally) and is definitely worth a look.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS have a braai on the balcony overlooking the sea.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC it’s hard to beat the Centre Stage at The Boardwalk. They organize lots of really good entertainment.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO take a long casual walk along Maitland Beach with my dogs … miles and miles of golden sands. Nothing beats it!
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY sandboarding down the dunes at Maitland. There is also organised hang-gliding there from time to time.
MY FAVOURITE food shop SHOP IS the Farm Shop at Elephant Walk … lots of homemade goodies (including fresh bread daily), organic vegetables and ready made meals for the days that you cannot be bothered to cook.
MY FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS is at the top of the hill just a kilometer or so away.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN December, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Nelson Mandela Summer Festival activities.
MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS the South End Museum. CHECK OUT THE comprehensive video of the apartheid era – one can learn a lot.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the Port Elizabeth Town Hall but nearly all of central Port Elizabeth has wonderful architecture.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS a visit to SAMREC (the South African Marine Rescue of Eastern Cape). Heartwarming to see how the creatures are nurtured back to health by caring staff.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to get yourself some little fishing nets and discover the sea creatures directly across the road.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO treat myself to a night or two at one of our fantastic local game reserves, where you are pampered and fed like royalty, not to mention the close encounters with animals.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the ocassional sea otter … but you have to be very quiet when looking for them.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS spending time with friends.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I donate whatever I may have replaced in the guesthouse and hand it over to Rotary who attend a monthly car boot sale to raise funds for those less fortunate than ourselves.
I Love Beachview BECAUSE its like being on holiday everyday. Those of us who live here in our little village are privileged to be close to the sea, have a very good climate (most of the time) but are only a 20 minute drive to the city.
