I Love Fouriesburg Because …

Updated Wednesday, 4 January 2017

Hi, Iโ€™m Guilletta from Pumula Guest Farm in Fouriesburg.

Fouriesburg IS BEST KNOWN FOR asparagus, unbelievable sandstone rock formations; the ‘Queen Victoria’ is listed as one of the 20 highest loose-standing rock formations in the Free State and the largest rock overhang in the Southern Hemisphere while ‘Salpeterkrans’ is on the way to Clarens.

Cosmos Country, Free State

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN INSIDE the old car at Jen-lee’s.

THE BEST autumn colour scene PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN anywhere in the Fouriesburg district.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS can be taken on the tractor outside the Plaas Stoep Pub.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO have sun-downers next to the low water bridge on the S344 dirt road.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO sip some red wine in the pub next to the fireplace at the Fouriesburg Country Inn.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS autumn and winter BECAUSE because of the beautiful autumn colours and snow in Lesotho in winter.

MY FAVOURITE lunch SPOT IS The Rose House.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS at the Fouriesburg Country Inn, TRY THE chicken livers – I love them.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY The Windmill Pub and Grill.

Fouriesburg

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO The Windmill Pub and Grill.

Fouriesburgโ€™s BEST KEPT SECRET IS that the town is the capital of the Free State. During the Boer War it was declared the capital while the president resided here. Rumour has it that it was never officially changed back to Bloemfontein again …

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS have lunch and play croquet at The Rose House.

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO go to our local art gallery – Doherty’s Art.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO reflect on my own in the beautiful church at Wnydford Holiday Farm.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY asking Dermot to take you on the 4 x 4 trail at Camelroc Guest Farm.

MY FAVOURITE WALK or DRIVE IS in the Meiringskloof Nature Reserve.

MY FAVOURITE ‘well I never knew I could buy all of this in one shop’ SHOP IS Issy General Store.

Fouriesburg

MY FAVOURITE sunrise WATCHING SPOT IS my own verandah.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN the beginning of September join in the fun at the Fouriesburg Spring Festival.

MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS Walibri Art. CHECK OUT THE amazing glass re-creations from recycling the towns glass.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING is the NG church in town FOR ITS beautiful sandstone architecture and glass windows.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS going down the Caledon River on tubes.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a picnic lunch packed by Brian at Walibri Art in the Meiringskloof Nature Reserve.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I’d LovE TO stay at Maliba Mountain Lodge which is a 45 minute drive from us in Lesotho.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the different sandstone formations.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I sell our fresh farm milk to the farm workers at the same price as it was in 2004!

I Love Fouriesburg BECAUSE the mountain scenery is never the same from one day to the next and I feel safe and grateful every day.
