Hi, I’m Glenda from Glenda’s Guest Suites in Beaulieu, Midrand, Gauteng.
Beaulieu IS BEST KNOWN FOR being a wonderfully quiet and peaceful residential area, in the heart of one of Gauteng’s fastest growing business areas, Midrand. We are so close to all the action and yet far enough for our guests to feel like they are in a bush getaway. We also have Kyalami Racetrack close by, one of the country’s best Golf Courses, Kyalami Country Club, as well as The Transvaal Horse Society, home of the world famous Lippizaner horses.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN IN in our lovely garden at any time – it’s always pretty.
THE BEST scenic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT The Beaulieu Bird Sanctuary in the early morning and watch the sun rise or in the eve before sunset, it’s just so peaceful and pretty.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT Transvaal Horse Society with the Lippizaners on a Sunday morning after their show.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO go for long walks in the area, as its safe and tranquil and the houses are beautiful . You can also take a wonderful drive to Maropeng and see the Sterkfontein Caves.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO sit inside and watch the rain and how the birds cope with the weather or else take a short drive to Fourways Mall or Sandton City and shop up a storm.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS anytime, BECAUSE the weather is always great and there’s always something to do in or around us. Just don’t come over the festive season as that’s when we take our much needed break with our kids.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS right here on my own patio, I’m told we do the best breakfasts! Or else at Isabella’s, in the shops across from Beaulieu as they have a lovely garden and a great brekky.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Papachinos. First class food and a great atmosphere. A wonderful place to take children too.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS The Raj, TRY THE Butter Chicken and Saag Paneer, their curries are fabulous!
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Nando’s just down the road or Adega’s In Carlswald.
MY FAVOURITE SPOT to browse IS Gecko Jewellers where one can not only buy really stunning jewels all made with semi-precious stones, but there is an underground mine tours which is worth a visit and a great little tea garden.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Monte Casino, only 15 mins drive from us, where you will be spoilt for choice in restaurants, cinemas, gambling and live shows.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Papachinos – everyone in Beaulieu hangs out there, especially on a Friday eve.
Beaulieu’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its peace and tranquillity. Guests are amazed at the little bubble we live in. Quiet and safe and yet so close to all the action, highways, businesses and shops.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS go for coffee at Bella Rosa coffee shop right here in Beaulieu and brose her little shop full of stunning gift ideas.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO Monte Casino where there is always something exciting happening.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO sit out in my garden and listed to the birds and watch the rabbits.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY go karting at Kylami Race Track … a thrill a minute or catch the Gautrain from Midrand to Sandton or Centurion and take in the local shops and coffee houses.
MY FAVOURITE WALK IS 5 km route around Beaulieu, taking in some nice ups and down and past some of the estates most beautiful homes.
MY FAVOURITE gift SHOP IS wonderful gift and home industry in the Crowthorne shops (the name evades me, but I can get it for you if you need). Marvelous gifts, curious and divine home made goodies.
MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS my own front yard and we often joke when we go away that we see more birds in our garden than in many game reserves!
IF YOU’RE HERE ON the last Sunday (think it’s the last one, but can check if you need) of every month, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Urban Market held at the Urban Life Church. Lots of fun activities for the kids and great food and hand crafts.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS a meal at Papachinos where helpers take off the kids off your hand, so mom and dad can have a rest.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to Jozi X, 20 mins drive away where kids or adventurous dads can spend a whole day on the giant inflatables. Take your own cooler box and only those that climb, pay. Tightropes, climbing wall, giant swings, loooong slippy slides, giant inflatable balls to roll in, all kinds of fun and adventure. A nice place for mom to relax as well.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO go shopping at Sandton City, a world of shops to choose from or take a trip to the De Wildt Cheetah Farm in Brits.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE ARE domestic rabbits running wild all over the area, guinea fowl eating off our lawn, owl at night and mongoose and wild hare all living quite happily in domestic gardens and dozens of runners, cyclists, horse riders and walkers all over the roads.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS trip to Sun City. Lots to see and do and an easy drive from where we are.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I take all our old clothes, furniture and anything else we cannot use, to Botshabelo Centre at the Urban Life Church. They have the most wonderful facility for abandoned children and are well supported by the local schools and community.
Beaulieu is wonderful community where neighbours know each other and get together on frequent outings. We have a prep and a college ion our area, so our kids have the benefit of going to school with children then live in their area, They can walk to each others house and develop a strong sense of community.
I Love Beaulieu BECAUSE it’s a little piece of paradise in amongst all the chaos of urban living surrounding us. I always tell my guests we live in a bubble and that’s how it feels – a bubble of hospitality, peace, tranquillity and safety, all within 5 -15 minutes of many of the clients business centres. What a life!
