Located on the well-known 1000 Hills Tourist Route, The Heritage Country Market is a craft market which operates on the last Sunday of each month in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal.
An outdoor shopping venue, the market is found at The Heritage in Hillcrest and this group of shops, housed amongst gardens and rose bushes has become a firm favourite with both Hillcrest residents and visitors alike.
The market aims to bring the country atmosphere back to Hillcrest and stocks a wide range of foods, arts and crafts. Live music keeps visitors entertained as they stroll along the cobbled street lined with tables offering shoppers any excuse to purchase something!
The food side of the market offers delicious breads, homemade pies and more-ish savoury tarts.
To go with the breads are goat’s milk cheeses, sundried tomatoes, olives and various meats.
Fresh fruit and veges are also available so remember to bring your carrier bags with you. For those who love something sweet with their afternoon cuppa, make sure you buy a cupcake or a packet of homemade biscuits.
A market would not be a market without crafts and the Heritage Market does not disappoint in this regard.
Baskets, rugs, paintings and furniture are all for sale as are books, wine racks and for inclement weather days, trendy gumboots!
Perhaps the Heritage Market is a good place to get some very early Christmas shopping done?
Entertainment for little people has not been forgotten and there is a wide variety to choose from including painting and crafts, face painting, pony rides and an interactive animal farmyard.
Parking and facilities are not a problem either with over 700 parking bays, clean ablutions, a tourist information centre and security.
By all accounts The Heritage Country Market does not deserve to be missed so pencil it in for the last Sunday of the month – you won’t regret it!
