THE BEST penguin PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT Bettys Bay (on the scenic R44 ocean drive between Pringle Bay and Kleinmond), renowned for its Jackass penguin colony.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO work in the garden and afterwards drive to the ocean to cool off.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO sit in front of my fire place and taste some wine.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS in our winter months from may until September, BECAUSE there are some specials around, the weather could be still be very nice and when there is a cloudy day you are able to visit one of the many indoor attractions.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS the Terrace at Somerset Villa Guesthouse, 4200m2 garden with a bird life hard to see anywhere else in the world.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST one of the many Wine Estates around Somerset West, too many fantastic places to mention.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Ben’s on the Beach, TRY THE fillet Steak au poivre and as starter a Caesar salad, in this restaurant the still know how it is made like it was made by Caesar Cardini.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM one of the many eateries at Waterstone Center.
MY FAVOURITE seafood HANGOUT IS Berties Mooring in Gordons Bay Harbour 15 minutes away which also features live music and great local bands.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Beuna Vista Social Café. If you’re looking for a true Cuban, Latin-inspired experience, then Buena Vista Social Café is a place to check out. Groove to hot Salsa music, have a few naughty Tequila shots or simply relax with a cigar while sipping on a Mojito and appeasing your appetite with a plate of spicy Chilli Poppers.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the many local clubs like Nubar, various restaurants and of course, the beach, where many locals like to stroll and relax!

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS eat and drink, and there is no shortage of places for either in Somerset West.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO the Sunset Concert series which are held at the Helderberg Nature Reserve between end of November and February. You could bring your own blanket and picnic and listen to a Big Band start at 17h30.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO practise my swing at one of the many golf courses.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY shark cage diving only less than an hour drive from our Guesthouse.
MY FAVOURITE WALK / HIKE IS in the Helderberg Nature Reserve. You could walk at your leisure and see some buck, tortoises and birds. If you are more adventures you can hike to the top of the Helderberg Mountain and have the best view imaginable.
MY FAVOURITE coffee SHOP IS in the Somerset Mall.
MY FAVOURITE whale WATCHING SPOT IS de Kelders.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN December, JOIN IN THE FUN AT at the Strawberry Festival some call it The Helderberg Lights Festival where the Main Road has a display of decorative Christmas lights atop the street lights. A flea market and parade complement these lights.
MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS Art Creations Africa Sculpture Garden and Gallery. CHECK OUT THE African Shona stone sculptures. You could buy a souvenir if you have the right property and everybody at home will be envious.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS is the Manor House at Vergelegen, FOR ITS architecture and beauty.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the cheetah outreach in Somerset West, it was moved in 2012 from Stellenbosch.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a visit to the beach, only 7 minutes’ drive from the Guesthouse.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO do a helicopter flight over the False bay.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS unhappy people.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS West Coast.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I give to charities and empower my employee’s through training.
I Love Somerset West BECAUSE it feels like home after I arrived in South Africa in 1995 from Germany and is easy to reach all tourist attractions in a short while, it is safe and has happy people living there.
