I Love Yzerfontein Because…

Updated Friday, 16 April 2021

Hi, I’m Myrna from Yzerfontein on the Cape West Coast.

YZERFONTEIN IS BEST KNOWN FOR white sandy beaches, relaxed seaside living, whale spotting, birdlife, the September flower season, unforgettable golden sunsets, surfing and boating.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Pearl Bay, on the beach, a stone’s throw from the White House Beach Villa.

THE BEST midday PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN lying in a field of Spring flowers.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO take a long leisurely walk along the 16 mile beach or simply soak up the sun and enjoy the sound and smell of the ocean.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO curl up at the fireplace with a good book and a glass of red wine.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS throughout the year, BECAUSE staying on the beachfront, you will experience temperatures which are cooler in summer and warmer in winter than that of Cape Town.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Geelbek, in the West Coast National Park nearby.

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Cloof wine farm, down a gravel road from Darling Cellars.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS !Khwa ttu, situated off the R27 towards Cape Town, TRY THE the Gemsbok pie or buffet lunches on a Sunday.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM cellar in the White House Beach Villa – savour some dark chilli chocolate and a nightcap of Groote Post Noble Late Harvest before retiring to bed.

MY FAVOURITE sundowner SPOT IS sitting on the dune and watching the spectacular sunset.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, take a stroll to the harbour and chat to the fishermen about their days catch.

Yzerfontein’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS the area known as Pearl Bay which is situated on the quieter, windfree side of Yzerfontein.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS preparing dinner together with freshly caught fish and chilled wine from nearby cellars.

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO !Kwha ttu and take a cultural tour with the San people and learn about their history.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO take long, walks on the soft, sandy beaches and collect shells at my leisure.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY packing your backpack with plenty of water and walk the length of the 16 mile beach.

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS visiting Allesverloren Estate, Babylon’s Peak Private Cellar, Kloovenburg Vineyards, Riebeek Cellars and Pulpit Rock Winery along the Swartland Wine Route.

MY FAVOURITE gift SHOP IS Lemon Tree, opposite the Spar, near the petrol station.

MY FAVOURITE whale watching WATCHING SPOT IS from the upstairs bedroom at the White House, overlooking the ocean.

IF YOU’RE HERE IN December, JOIN IN THE FUN AT fun at the Snoek Festival, which includes the Snoek Classic, where boats compete to catch the most or the heaviest snoek for the day.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS having a picnic on the beach, playing in the waves and building sandcastles together.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a day surfing and bathing at the blue flag beach.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS right here at the White House Beach Villa where peace and tranquillity awaits you.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support the local people by providing employment.

I Love Yzerfontein BECAUSE it brings me closer to nature and keeps me grounded.
