Hi, we’re Sandy and Peter from Kyalami.
Kyalami IS BEST KNOWN FOR it’s Motor Racing Circuit that used to be home to the South African Formula 1 Grand Prix, as well as being the ‘Horse Capital’ of the world with a vibrant horse industry and approximately 5500 horses within the Greater Kyalami Conservancy of 42km². The conservancy is host to 360 events each year with five major international competitions, as well as the world famous SA Lipizzaners.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT at the Kyalami Castle that offers 360° views of Sandton and Joburg’s skyline with the Magalisberg in the distance.
THE BEST wedding PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN in Soul Fusion’s beautiful garden.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT many locations throughout the countryside that offer fantastic fauna and flora, wetlands and bird sanctuaries.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, we LIKE TO go cycling through Kyalami’s beautiful countryside, or play a round of golf at either Kyalami or Leewkop Country Club.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, we LIKE TO see a performance of the famous Lipizzaner at our equestrian park, or visit nearby Monte Casino.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS from spring to autumn, BECAUSE of the fantastic weather on offer. Although winter has also something on offer with aloes in full flower and many equestrian events to visit.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS right here at Soul Fusion, or at Papachinos in Midrand.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Papachinos just down the road from us.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS La Trinity, TRY THE homemade gnocchi.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Chefs in Motion in Lonehill.
MY FAVOURITE picnic SPOT IS the Inanda Country Base at the Horse and Hound Festival, held once a year.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY nearby Monte Casino which has a wide variety of restaurants and many shows on offer at two theatres.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Midrand Urban Market held in the morning of the first Saturday of each month.
Kyalami’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its bird-life. We have over 245 species and its pristine Wetlands provide shelter for the African Bullfrog that breeds here as well as jackals, owls, falcons, eagles etc.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to bake pizzas in our traditional wood-fired oven on our patio.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO go around the corner to the Kyalami Country Pub.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO visit the Thyme Workshop in Glen Austin for a sauna and a relaxing massage.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY the MTN Cycling Park, or X-treme Zone Adventures a mere 10 minutes drive away. Another must is the Kyalami Carting Circuit, or an advanced driving course at the race track that also hosts a super bike school.
MY FAVOURITE WALK IS around Beaulieus Bird Sanctuary through the Greater Kyalami Conservancy.
MY FAVOURITE fresh produce SHOP IS the Kyalami Farmstall along Main Road.
MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS is the Bird Sanctuary or from our balcony or tree house.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN Easter, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Equestrian Park for the Nissan Easter Festival.
MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS at the Bryanston Organic Market.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the old and original Kyalami Castle, built in the 1850’s by the eccentric Papenfus Family, FOR ITS authentic look.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? Try one of the many FUN OUTINGS like Kyalami Race and Carting Track, Equestrian Park, Cycling Park, X-Zone Adventures and many more.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS to walk or cycle through the Conservancy.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO take a helicopter flip over Kyalami from Midrand Grand Central Airport, or to go hot air ballooning from Lanseria Airport.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE, from time to time, are horses and carriages on the roads on a Sunday morning.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS the Pilansberg National Park adjoining Sun City, a mere 90 minute drive away.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I would like to start a Kyalami Cheese and Wine Festival.
OTHER: Although Kyalami is set in the country, half way between Johannesburg and Pretoria Accommodation, we are in close proximity to major business parks, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, casinos, theatres, world class sporting venues etc. All are easily accessible.
I Love Kyalami BECAUSE it is unique in many ways. It is what we call the ‘lung’, providing a green island in pristine condition that is surrounded by development.
