Hi, I’m Melanie from The Walden Suites in Fresnaye on the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town.
FRESNAYE IS BEST KNOWN FOR its tranquillity and awesome views. Best of both worlds as you have the mountains and the ocean on your doorstep. It is also mostly a wind-free area when the well known Cape Doctor wind is blowing in the rest of Cape Town. The best part of Fresnaye, is that it is ideally located to reach Camps Bay, Lundudno & Hout Bay to the one side and Sea Point, Waterfront and City Centre conveniently on the other side.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Signal Hill, it is the perfect place for a beautiful Sundowner as well as being surrounded by Table Mountain and Lions Head Mountain.
THE BEST romantic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT any of the beaches below Fresnaye, boasting beautiful rocks in the ocean where you and your loved one can own a piece of magic.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT just a few minutes drive around the 12 Apostles mountains with the ocean following you, many places to stop and enjoy the breathtaking views.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO walk along the beachfront on the promenade, with many little cafes to stop for a quick cappuccino or a Sundowner.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO pop into the V&A Waterfront and enjoy some shopping or just relax and cuddle up in our cosy guest house.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS February to March, BECAUSE the weather is awesome at this time and so much more to do than just the festivities over Christmas time. Also avoid the Christmas holiday makers, however all in all from November to March would be suitable for a visit.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS at our Guest house as we serve breakfast till 12pm, but if you wish to pop down to the ocean, (New Port Deli) in Mouille Point is 5 to 10 minutes away. Enjoy the morning walkers & runners while enjoying your coffee & bagels.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST anywhere in Camps Bay which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. Wether you prefer fish to meat to vegetarian, you will enjoy the nice hustle and bustle of the sea side visitors and the relaxation of having a lunch below the mountains but once again at the ocean.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Beluga at The Foundry Prestwitch street Green Point, TRY THE Lamb shank, Seared Tuna Fillet or Springbok fillet, for Dessert, the most popular White lindt balls or Chocolate Martinis.
MY FAVOURITE walking SPOT IS Lions Head, with more than 1 path and not too strenuous.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Long Street which is Cape Town’s hot spot with many bars and night clubs but be on the look out where the Live Music is at.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Dubliner Irish Pub on Long Street, where both the locals and foreigners hang out.
Fresnaye’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS most definitely the awesome view.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS catch the sunset in any of the many surrounding areas.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO the summer open air concerts in Kirstenbosch Gardens during the summer, where you can pack a picnic basket and enjoy a romantic time away or just some fun with friends.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, a hike on the mountains will do or if you not the sporty type just sitting on a rock over looking the Atlantic Ocean!
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY paragliding from Lions Head Mountain or one of the many adventure trips on offer.
MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS the Cape Peninsula Coastal Drive from Llandudno through to Chapman’s Peak.
MY FAVOURITE SHOPPING MALL IS The Cape Quarter for all the beautiful unique décor and fashion from designers.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN March, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Cape Town Carnival or The New years carnival beginning of January to watch the famous Cape Ministrel carnival. Cape Town also offers a famous Jazz Weekend festival in March. In the same month the Two Oceans Marathon and The Argus Cycle Tour.
MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS Iziko found opposite Cape Town Gardens. CHECK OUT THE the National Gallery as well with a walk down Government lane in the open air, while you are there.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Castle, FOR ITS it is one of Cape Town’s National heritage sites.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the Two Oceans Aquarium in the Waterfront as well as the scratch patch to enjoy collecting their own coloured stones of South Africa.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS the Hop On & Hop Off Bus, inexpensive and you are able to hop off at any of the planned destinations in and around the city you wish, according to the time slots you can hop back on to the next place of interest.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO enjoy a Lobster at the BAIA restaurant in the Waterfront, fine dinning and wonderful seafood. While having the Table Mountain to look upon.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the culture differences that make South Africa in general a wonderful place.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS the Cape Winelands as there are many hidden away wine farms, offering wonderful lunches as well enjoying a walk in historic villages.
I Love Fresnaye BECAUSE it’s the best part of in Cape Town.
