Updated Saturday, 22 December 2018

Hi, Iโ€™m Ann Walters from Mtunzini in Zululand, KwaZulu Natal.

Mtunzini IS BEST KNOWN FOR its exceptional setting overlooking an unspoilt lagoon and miles of beautiful beach.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT sunrise while strolling on the beach.

THE BEST mood PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the Raphia Palm Natural Monument which is like a Gothic cathedral with palms for columns and arches.

OTHER HAPPY SNAPS FROM the top deck of a barge cruising down the Mlalazi River.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO swim in the warm Indian Ocean.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO meet friends for a chat at one of our many coffee shops.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS all year, BECAUSE Mtunzini has hot summers and wonderful mild winters.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS The Fat Cat.

Mtunzini

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST The Clay Oven.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Zanj, TRY THE curried prawns.

BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM a wine bottle in the rooms bar fridge!

MY FAVOURITE sundowner SPOT IS on the banks of the Mlalazi River, waiting for the moon to rise over the forest on the far side.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Nature’s Way where you can meet zebras at the bar.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO the Umlalazi Ski-boat Club or the Mtunzini Country Club.

Mtunzini

Mtunziniโ€™s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its safe and friendly environment.

MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS gather at the lagoon and have a braai with the children fish.

FOR SOME CULTURE , I LIKE TO GO TO the Museum Village in Eshowe.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO have a foot massage and try all the herbal products at Lavenderlane on a farm outside Mtunzini.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, hire a birding guide and head for the Ongoye Forest or hire a canoe and paddle to the mouth of the Mlalazi River.

MY FAVOURITE HIKE IS through the coastal forest to the mouth of the Mlalazi River and then stroll back along the beach. Its a good couple of hours but well worth it. Often I time it so that I reach the mouth before sunset and then walk back on the beach with only the full moon showing me the way.

The Clay Oven

MY FAVOURITE coffee and cake SHOP IS D’lish.

MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS on one of the trails leading from the Twinstreams Environmental Centre.

IF YOU’RE HERE over a weekend, JOIN IN THE FUN AT The Prawn Shack at the Amatikulu River mouth.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS the Vukani Museum of Zulu Art and Culture. CHECK OUT THE best collection of traditional Zulu art in the world.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS One-on-Hely Guest House, FOR ITS contemporary design, spacious, stylish interiors and beautiful balconies overlooking a fabulous garden with coastal forest and the sea in the distance.

Raffia Palm Forest

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS to the Dlinza Forest Aerial Boardwalk in Eshowe where you can get to the top of the forest without being afraid of heights.

BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS going to the beach in the late afternoon.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO shop and spoil myself at The Painted House.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS a zebra at the zebra crossing.

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS to one of the nearby game reserves to check out the Big Five.

WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I teach kids how to play chess at our local primary shcool.

I Love Mtunzini Because no other place is anything like it.
