Hi, Iโm Caroline from Morningside, Durban in KwaZulu Natal.
Morningside IS BEST KNOWN FOR being a trendy upmarket suburb with many restaurants, pubs and clubs. Its parks and gardens and beautiful residential homes including Kings House, the State Presidentโs residence when he visits Durban, just add an extra dimension.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO walk around Mitchell and Jameson Park.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO curl up with a good book.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS Spring, Autumn or Winter, BECAUSE some people find it a bit hot in Summer.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Quarters on Florida Road.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Moโs Noodles.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Jam, TRY THE Coconut Crusted Prawns.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM Spiga Dora.
MY FAVOURITE coffee SPOT IS Vida Cafรฉ across the road from Mitchell Park.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY anywhere down Florida Road.ย There are so many restaurants to choose from that you are bound to find one that suits your mood.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO pick any pub in Florida road.
Morningsideโs BEST KEPT SECRET IS its position. Perfectly positioned to go down the hill one way to the seaside, down the hill the back way and you are on the ring road that can take you either north, south or inland, all within 5 minutes. Yet you are living in a leafy suburb with lots of entertainment on the door step.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS walk around the Mitchell Park Zoo and see all the birds.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO and sit in the nearby Botanic Gardens and listen to the Durban Philomonic orchestra play on a Sunday afternoon.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO walk my dogs in the cool of the evening in Jameson Park with all the other dog walkers.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY going down to the Moses Mabhida stadium and take a ride in the sky car, or if you are more adventurous, do the Bungy Jump or even walk up over the arch on your own.
MY FAVOURITE DRIVE IS along the coast road up to Umdlotiย Beach (where you can also horse ride) or even further north.
MY FAVOURITE WATCHING SPOT IS sitting in the bar at the end of the Moyo pier and just taking in the sunset over the beaches.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN the winter, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Durban July, one of the most prestigious events in the county for any race goer โ or just as pure entertainment.
MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS the Crouse Art Gallery in Windermere Road. CHECK OUT THE latest works by the current top artists.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDINGS ARE are all the old Victorian buildings in the area and particularly the large estates that had been built by the old sugar barons like Upton Hall and the Manor House in Nuttall Gardens.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS getting a day ticket at uShaka Marine World. That way you can go to the Wet & Wild which means the kids can go on all the big slides and you can bob down the lazy river on a tube. Then of course there is the amazing aquarium and the dolphins so a busy day is had by all.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS simply to hire a bike at the skate board park on the beach front and then ride from one end of the beach to the other, right up to Blue Lagoon.ย Stop for a coffee or a bit to eat at either the Moses Mabhida stadium or at a restaurant right on the front.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO dine at Harveyโs โ across the road from Mitchell Park.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS in the bush at Hluhluwe River Lodge in Hluhluwe.
I Love Morningside Durban BECAUSE itโs a great place to live!
