Hi, I’m Amanda from umSisi House and umSisi Cottage just outside White River on the way to the Kruger National Park and just minutes away from the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.
White River IS BEST KNOWN FOR its proximity to the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN IN the Blyde River Canyon and show your friends what it looks like to be ‘on top of the world’.
THE BEST PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN AT the Three Rondavels where the sign says ‘Do not go any further’.
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS AT God’s Window and Wonder View.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO take a picnic to the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens in Nelspruit where there is plenty of shade, some lovely walks and incredible birdlife.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO go out for a long lunch and browse the shops at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.
I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS September, BECAUSE its not too hot and the game viewing possibilities in the Kruger National Park are amazing. But we’re lucky in the Lowveld as we enjoy an enviable and fabulous climate all-year around.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS the Magnolia Cafe at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST Zannas at the Baghdad Centre (across the road from Casterbridge).
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Picasso’s Mexican Taqueria at the Baghdad Centre, TRY THE frozen lime margaritas and chilli poppers.
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM one of the garages in White River – this is the Lowveld, nowhere else is open late at night!
MY FAVOURITE sun downer SPOT IS The Fez at the Baghdad Centre.
FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN ask someone younger! 🙂
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO Gum Treez Pub & Grill at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre.
White River’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS Sanna Atherton’s Shen Acupuncture practice.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS bumble around the Kruger National Park in search of magical moments.
FOR SOME LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO GO TO Summerfield’s Rose Retreat and Spa and listen to the sound of the river!
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO drive through the Blyde River Canyon.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY geckoing down the Sabie River with Induna Adventures in Hazyview.
MY FAVOURITE WALK / HIKE IS up in the mountains behind umSisi House where you can look down at Legogote mountain and across Masoyi Tribal Area to the Kruger National Park beyond!
MY FAVOURITE ‘something for everyone’ SHOP IS Africa Joy at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre which supports local community craft projects.
MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS Lake Panic just minutes from the Paul Kruger Gate entrance into the Kruger National Park. And from there it is just a short trip to the fabulous Indigenous Nursery which is well worth a visit.
IF YOU’RE HERE IN May, JOIN IN THE FUN AT the Uplands Festival which incorporates live theatre, a country market, children’s entertainment, a food and drink marquee with live music and a jazz festival.
MY FAVOURITE GALLERY IS the Sunshine Gallery in Graskop. CHECK OUT THE awesome Nyami Nyami walking sticks by Zimbabwean sculptor, Rainos Tawonameso.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre, FOR ITS Lowveld architecture and courtyard shopping and dining vibe.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS the elephant interaction and walk at Elephant Whispers in Hazyview.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS a picnic at the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens.
WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO rent an open-game viewing vehicle for just myself and my husband, and spend the day with a knowledgeable local guide in the Kruger National Park.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the moon rising behind Legogote mountain and backlighting our ‘Sentinel of the Lowveld’.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS Tamboti Tented Camp in the Kruger National Park – as long as it’s not too hot!.
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I support the amazing work done by Masoyi Home Based Care.
OTHER attractions include Kaapsehoop Horse Trails; Chimp Eden, Reptile Park at Perry’s Bridge, Big Swing at Graskop, Zipline with Skyway Trails; Hoedspruit Research and Breeding Centre; Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre; Sudwala Caves; Silk Farm and Weavery; Hot Air Ballooning with ‘Balloons Over Africa’.
I Love White River Because of its proximity to the Kruger National Park, Panorama Route and all the adventure activities in the immediate area.
