Hi, I’m Marnice from Rustenburg in the North West Province of South Africa.
RUSTENBURG IS BEST KNOWN FOR the beautiful game parks highlighting the lovely nature, birdlife and Big Five territory of the Pilanesberg.
GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT the Kgaswane Nature Reserve. You can get a panoramic view of the Magaliesberg Mountain from the highest view point at the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. Don’t forget to get a picture of the crater of an extinct volcano that existed 1500 million years ago.
THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHS CAN BE TAKEN AT the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve – just remember the park is home to the Big Five so getting out of your car is not recommended!
OTHER HAPPY SNAPS can be taken at sport events, musical events and festivals …
WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO swim, go for walks, cycle, and sky dive, go paragliding or book a hot air balloon trip. Hot air ballooning is a perfect way to see the beautiful countryside of this area.
WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO visit the Rustenburg Waterfall Mall, the Cradle of Human Kind or the Paul Kruger House Museum. The house was built in 1884 and an interesting fact is that milk was used to mix the cement because at the time the cement was of a very poor quality. It just shows that milk is not just good for strong bones!
I THINK THE BEST TIME TO VISIT IS all year as all seasons are sunny so you are pretty much guaranteed good weather.
MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS at one of the hotels in the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve – anything from fresh fruit and muesli to a proper South African breakfast!
FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST any of the many restaurants at the Rustenburg Waterfall Mall.
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS Cape Town Fish Market at the Rustenburg Waterfall Mall. Between the restaurant, Fish Market, Teppanyaki & Sushi Bar there is something on the menu for everyone!
BEST LATE NIGHT SNACK FROM also comes from restaurants in the mall. Whether you fancy a burger or a pasta you will be able to find something to satisfy your taste buds.
MY FAVOURITE NATURE SPOT IS the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve.
IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO TO B&B’s and local Guest Houses – you are bound to find someone interesting to chat to.
RUSTENBURG’S BEST KEPT SECRET IS the nearby Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. The park covers 55 000 hectares. Make sure you visit Manke Dam; a large central lake.
MY FAVOURITE THING TO DO WITH FRIENDS IS to have a braai!
FOR SOME CULTURE & LIVE MUSIC, I LIKE TO go to shows at Sun City. There is always something exciting on and I’m never disappointed.
TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO go on a game drive at one of the many game lodges in the North West Province … you never know what you are going to spot so bring your camera.
IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY paragliding – the view is so different from up above.
MY FAVOURITE WALK / HIKE OR DRIVE IS at the Kgaswane Nature Reserve or Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. Whether its animal, bird or tree spotting there is always something interesting to see.
MY FAVOURITE SHOP IS at the Waterfall Mall – I like is Lindi Loo or the African Arts art shop. Always something great on offer here!
MY FAVOURITE BIRD WATCHING SPOT IS the Magaliesberg Mountain area – you are normally bound to see something special. You’ll be hooked on the hobby before you know it.
IF YOU’RE IN RUSTENBURG join in the fun at the musical festival at Sun City. You’ll get a real sense of what living in Rustenburg is all about!
MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM IS the Paul Kruger Museum – the history depicted is interesting and the house has so many fascinating bits about it. Just remember is closes at 17h00.
MY FAVOURITE BUILDING IS the Rustenburg Mall, for its nice shops and restaurants.
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS to the Lion Park or Predator World near Sun City or the Valley of Waves at Sun City. Predator World offers cheetah walks, game drives, guided tours and you can visit the zoo at night! Feeding times are Mondays at 11am, Thursdays at 4pm and Saturdays at 2pm.
BEST CHEAP AND CHEERFUL OUTING IS visiting the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. Just pay the entry fee and off you go. Remember to drive slowly and keep an eye out for animals!
WHEN MONEY IS NO OJECT, I LIKE TO go bird watching.
THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS the Grietjie Vulture Restaurant in the Magaliesberg Mountains. Fresh meat and carcasses are put down for vultures – if you are a keen birder this is a definite for you. Various species of vultures can be spotted so at only R30 for the entrance fee it’s a great down out.
MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS TO a game lodge or to go on a safari trip. It’s a completely different getaway!
WHEN I WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMINITY, I join in with community projects run by our local charity organisations like the Lions, Round Table etc.
I Love Rustenburg because it is my home and the heart of the bushveld.
